Recent RNYers- 1 night or 2 night hospital stay?

In my program, it is a standard 2 nights unless more is required due to complications.

My surgeon and his partner do surgeries on Monday and Tuesday.  There were 12 of us on the floor Tuesday and Wednesday.  Each doc did 3 surgeries each day.  It was crazy, and the Bariatric Nurse told us to not be the last in line for walking unless we didn't mind all the farting.  Kept me motivated to lap the others. 

Anyway, we were standard 2 nights automatically.  I had a catheter that they didn't take out until Wednesday, and I was one of the first surgeries of the day on Tuesday.

2 nights total in the hospital for me.  But trust me, even if you stay 2 nights, you should NOT be driving, and will need help with the kiddos. 

2 nights was standard for my program but my surgery went so well and I was tolerating liquids well enough that he said I could go home after 1 - it was my choice. I opted to stay one more night for my own peace of mind (and my nurses took such good care of me!).

I stayed 2 nights.  I had my surgery at 1:30 pm on a Friday and went home on Sunday.  I'd be prepared to stay for 2 nights.  Good luck with your surgery!  :)

I was discharged after 1 night.  I passed the swallow test, kept down the liquid stuff I had to drink, passed gas and the drain was able to be removed. I had an uncomplicated recovery. I would not have wanted to be there for another night.  It's hard when you need to plan for family things, unfortunately how long you stay is not always predictable as others have stated.  My girlfriend a gem.  She was "on call" to pick me up from the hospital as my fiancé was at work and couldn't take the day off.  

I stayed 2 nights...standard for my doc unless more due to complications. And, you have to get down an Ensure like shake before they will let you go. I had no issues or complications, did not need pain meds but would not have wanted to drive.............

Thanks everyone!  I really appreciate all the responses. WAs on the phone with my nurse case manager from my insurance and she said she sees more people go home after the first day. I will plan for child care, and expect to go home the first day. I never have complications, i am very healthy so i expect i will be sent home pretty quickly. DARN IT! i am a working mom. An extra day would be so welcome for me :)

By the way, did you specifically ask about RNY patients? I ask because my surgeon said that he occasionally sends people home after only one night, but I found out that sleeve patients were the only ones who ever got sent home early. RNY patients are always kept longer. The current popularity of the sleeve could be skewing the answer you received unless you specifically narrowed your question to RNY.
