Ok YES, come to Toronto!! You and Nikki come here and practice law here! I work in down town Toronto but live in the burbs outside of Toronto. We could totally go running together and meet up at Starbucks together! Oh I can see the headlines now " three skinny women cause havoc in downtown Toronto Starbucks but before Police could apprehend them they all ran away, oddly looking fabulous doing it!"
Ok you said Starbucks, I obviously need coffee!

I am one of those people that you all hate. I have people send me emails and IMs all of the time asking for compliance advice and regulatory interpretations. I find that I generally get only a part of what I need to know to provide good information, and often only get the the information they want to give me in order to get the answer they want. So, I generally have to call them or set up a meeting to talk through the issue. The details matter people!

Ok, ok, I'll admit that sometimes a call or meeting request is appropriate - but when we're talking about an email saying "Do X, followed by Y" and it's something these people do EVERY. DAY. there really isn't a need for a call!

No hating here! I totally get what you mean. Depending on the question/answer sometimes you need to call or spend time in person to explain, I totally get that. And I actually agree with you 1000%, details matter. I am actually told by my hubby I am too detailed, so right there with you. It is very situational.

I couldn't agree more with all of your thoughts on texting, emailing, etc. I also email because I want a reply in writing. I have voice mail on my phone and have been contemplating deleting it completely or seeing if I can just put an outgoing message that says, "If you have reached this message, please send me a text or email. If you choose to leave a voice mail, I may not get it for weeks. Have a good day."

Not about a business setting, but we have some neighbors who have adopted several foster children--big family, big house. Their home message says something like: "If you have reached this message, it doesn't mean we aren't home. It just means we all thought someone else would get the phone. Call back!"
Also a friend who NEVER answers her voice mails--her husband finally recorded this message on her phone: Hi! This is [Name's] phone. She never checks or answers her messages, so don't leave one."
