Hello!

I have my surgery date. It is March 23 2016. I am soooo scared at this point and yet so excited at the same time.

I begin my shakes on March 9 2016. I think this might be what scares me the most. The shakes and losing hair afterwards.

 

Any advice?

I am a month after you it looks like. But at this point, my best advice is what I've seen from posters here, walk lots, get in your water and protein initially. Good luck!

Surgery buddies! I start my shakes tomorrow though, I have to do 3 weeks.

I am so so nervous about the hair loss. Post partum hair loss really got me and I still haven't recovered from that. My hair was always my security blanket. 

Hang in there, I'm sure you'll do great!

I am sort of doing shakes to ready myself...albeit with a meal at dinner.

hairloss scares me. I loss hair as a child due to chemo. It's now my security blanket too.

so far I am loving these boards!

I too lost all of my hair from chemo, prior to RNY surgery.  So, when I lost some hair as a result of RNY, it was no big deal.  We've both seen much worse, so - comparatively speaking, it is just a small blip on the hair loss continuum.  You'll be fine!

 Height: 5'7".  HW: 299, Program starting weight: 290, SW: 238, CW 138 - 12 pounds under goal!

Don't worry about the shakes.  Put some ice in and give them a whirl in the blender, I have been adding a scoop of protein powder (put extra water in) too and sometimes a few frozen berries or a shot of espresso (chill before adding) for a change. Have found it far easier than I thought it would be.  Day 3 today.  Don't know about the hair loss, just have to go with the flow (or the fall) on that one. Good luck.

Thank you! I am actually looking forward to the shakes today. lol My feelings about everything are a rollercoaster of emotions.

I am currently on Day 8 of the shakes and they are doable. For me, I was still very very hungry until Day 7. Like stomach growling, making audible noises hungry. I drank lots of water and essentially white knuckled my way through it. It is better now. I am using orange extract in the vanilla ones, some decaf coffee in the chocolate ones and a bit of almond extract when I eat them like pudding.

Excellent! I am going to get some of orange extract or maybe strawberry extract to try.

also some sugar free jello!
