Hi all! I'm new. My name is Lisa. I had the RNY way back in 2002 and with just a few hiccups along the way I've maintained a 124 # loss.

Two years ago I started having this crescendo like pain in my abdomen. It would last about a 1/2 hour. Brought me to my knees!! Went in, CT showed this intusseception. Surgery 2 days later. 4 days later, I'm vomiting, sweating, a beautiful color of ash grey...hubby throws me in the car to the ER we go and my B/P is 63/30 something...they said I was kind on my way towards the light! Surgery again, lose 5 inches of my bowel due to an obstruction and perforation. 10 days later the same thing!!! This time they take 2 feet! ICU for 10 days to rest all of me. It took about 6 mo for the wound to close from the inside out in my tummy. I'm being very vague about the recovery, it was just a long time. And I sometimes think they may have done a partial labotomy while I was under ;)

They told me that this is something that returns. Guess what?? It's back!! I've had 3 of the pains in the last week and saw the docs yesterday. I'm waiting for the call.

Anyone else been thru this? I know there are so many people who have things so much worse!!! I know!!!

Opinions, experiences, you name it, it's welcome.

Thanks for letting me join.

Lisa

Lisa-

OMG! This is just horrible.  I am so sorry for what you are going through.  Was the intussuception in the large or small bowels?  As you probably know by now, this is caused from intestines not being in sync... the peristaltic waves are working against each other.  I'm not sure how the surgery would have caused this.  Again, I'm so sorry.

Thanks for replying. I do not know the locations of the intusseception and obstructions. I can find out.

The doc just called and said they are going to sit and wait on this and I am to report to the ER when I am in pain.

I love my docs but I just asked for a referral to Mayo. I don't want to sit and wait for this to turn into another life threatening event. Am I crazy?? I think not. Ok maybe a little nutty, but I've learned enough about my own body and its pains and functions to know I don't want to wait.

Sorry for this Lisa and for the fact that it's back.  I would not be happy with the wait and see either, given your history.  I'd hot foot it to the ER at the first sign of pain.  I know a few vets who have had this, but unfortunately they rarely post any more.

I will not hesitate to go the minute it starts.

Wow. Sorry you dealing with that. As far as I know intusseception can hapen in a normal person also. My BF coding deals with that... It is horrible... But the docs told her that there is not much they can do..

She does follow rather low fiber diet...

Good luck..

It can happen although it's quite uncommon in adults. It's more common in babies. From what I'm understanding once an adult gets it, we're more susceptible to it again. Which sucks to be blunt!!

I drink enough water for a small city, and I really try to watch all the foods I eat. I'm actually a very good post op patient. And I sincerely don't want to go through this again.

Thanks for the input!!! Love the emoticon.

Just got the call from my docs office. Appt in Mayo is in May. Long wait, but I think it'll be worth the consult. Find out if this is just something I'm going to live with like they said or maybe a fix. We'll see!!

Sorry you're going through this I had this happen to me when I was a teenager but I thought because I was overweight it was just stomach cramps it went away for many many years as I gained a lot of weight when I had surgery in 2011 it came back in 2012 after I had my tummy tuck and it came back something vicious I ended up having emergency surgery to have a part of my small intestine removed as it had rolled back on itself my surgeon told me at the time that it was rare and it usually happens in babies I didn't have pain for about 6 months and then it returned again I am constantly dealing with it but he put me on a drug called Reglan and benzene the medication helps but has not found the problem and it doesn't matter what I'm doing when it wants to twist on itself it will I could sneeze I could bend over to get something off the floor I can laugh I can lay down it doesn't matter and the pain is unexplainable I feel your pain so I hope it gets better for you
