Good Morning,

I am on Day 7 Optifast for my surgery scheduled on March 9th. Ironically, autocorrect is trying to turn Optifast into optimist, which although funny doesn't seem to quite describe my feelings of being on 4 shakes a day. I am not as hungry as I was on Day 5, so that is definitely something positive :)

I have been lurking for a few days and have read a lot of informative, supportive posts. I am excited to have found this resources and look forward to getting to know you all a bit better.

Have a great morning.

-Joanne

Thanks. Any words of wisdom? Please tell me you are not as hungry as you were pre surgery....

I'm rarely hungry like I was before surgery. It's different for everyone though. My first week was tough- I wanted to eat the things I had before even though I wasn't physically hungry and those foods would likely make me sick: that's "head hunger". It is much better now but still sneaks up occasionally- you have to gut it out and once you see the weight loss I hope you'll be motivated that it's worth going without that pizza or cookie! I have to eat by the clock most of the time- like right now, I am not hungry at all, but it's time for a snack. If I don't eat I'll be low on my protein and since I can't eat too much at a time, it will be hard to make up later.

Be prepared- you will not be able to reach your protein and fluid goals right after surgery- it will take some time. Fluids are priority so don't be shocked if you're not able to get much else in. You'll want to work towards those goal amounts, but avoiding dehydration is way more important at first. I used Premiere Protein only at first- my goal was to get through 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon- and some days I couldn't. But it gets slowly better over time!!

  Think of the word P-O-W-E-R:    P=protein first   O=optimism   W=water  E=exercise  R=resist grazing.

It's great your autocorrect has tried to get the OPTIMIST thought going early.  In an attempt to make food a nutritional necessity and nothing more, the words "hungry" and "full" are mute terms.  I eat every three waking hours to keep blood sugars level and for nourishment.  Stay positive.
