Hi all im new around here. Just had RNY on 2/23 i finally am on the other side! It feels amazing and i have 2 or 3 oz of liquids and start hiccuping.  I never even fathomed being full...but on that same note i am struggling with the liquids. I dont think im getting down nearly enough...sick of them all, have not found a crystal light that doesnt taste fake to me....so plain water here :(  also stuggling with cravings? I know oxymoron i get full on 2 sips but crave everything else! I thought taste buds and cravings and hunger would be gone...everyone said they had to be reminded to eat postop...is that later on? Am o still too fresh? i smell certain things and go nuts like yesterday my husband had fried chicken and the smell alone omg! Im sick of liquid stage too so i think thats no help. Anyone has any suggestions on some different soups or techniques to help through? Im terrified im already doing everything wrong and will stretch my pouch or dehydrate or something! Help!

You definitely need to sip all day to get your water in. You do not say to become dehydrated.  I would suggest maybe sipping on some bouillon (beef or chicken) and that might satisfy your cravings.   What are you currently drinking in your liquid phase?  Protein shakes or what?

Protein shake, water, broth.... Jello very little tastes super sweet to me.. I think its all in my head too...i was on liquid diet 8 days pre op too so at this point im over it...im excited Tues i start phase 2 which allows also pudding, yogurt, and tomato soup so hopefully that will change it up a bit? Im just nervous....after all the preparation and research i did pre op you'd think i wouldnt be such a mess!

Sugar free popsicles, store bought protein drinks, and sf jello counted toward the 64 ounces of daily liquid requirements.  Taste buds, cravings, and hunger were all over the place the first few weeks.  Building confidence and creating a routine helped me with the adjustment period you are going through.

Thank you so much it makes me feel so much better to know its not just me and there is an adjustment period! I think with everything i get close like maybe 45-55oz but not 64...iys gradually increasing because 1 oz was hard now i can do about 3 every 40-45 min....im hoping in time it will be more and more im just scared to push because i dont want to force i get painful hiccups.

they told me 1 oz every 15 min- you do not want to drink too much at once.

When you get to soups, maybe try cream of chicken/etc. Tomato soup has a ton of sugar in it so just a word to the wise. Didn't realize till i had already bought it- then couldn't eat it...

Hiccups are a signal that you are full. You are still swollen from surgery, so you will still get "full" from fluids. That will go away any time now as the swelling goes away. Just drink a little slower for now.

My absolute hungriest was those first few weeks after surgery. It was probably all in my head. Once I was able to start eating actual food, it went away, and I had several months of not being hungry.

You have to find what works for you . Cold, room temp or hot. I couldn't do plain water but i did drink alot of propel water and hot tea along with the broth. Hang in there it gets better. I had my RNY on 12/17/15 and struggled getting my fluids in as well, but the further out you get the better it gets. Good luck on your new journey .
