Can you share your macros?

I don't really have macro goals. I have a calorie limit, but it is more of a daily average than a strict daily limit. By the end of the week I'm on target.

I generally eat mostly protein. I usually get 180 to 200 geams of protein a day. 300 is not uncommon, but I've gone over 400 now and then. Some days I get more fat grams than protein, but that's if there's been a sale on sausage or ribeye. If I've gone up a couple of pounds, I'll end up close to zero carbs when I cut back, but mostly I don't pay attention to carbs.

This is just what works for me. I really only keep a close eye on calories.

I constantly read and re-evaluate, ask, re-evaluate, etc...thanks!  In MFP, my calorie goal is around 1400 but I did set macros, too.  My nutritionist said to focus on the macros and the calories would fall in line.  I've learned that is true, and it's not true...I have to look at what I'm eating.  I am gonna up my fats, though, because I find myself hungry sometimes (maybe more than sometimes in my head) and right now I get like 30-35g of fat per day but I think if I up that and drop the carbs, it might help.  If I (because I do...) exercise at least 5 days a week (4 of whi*****lude RPM Biking) that fat won't come back to bite me in the rear, will it?  I was thinking it could help feed my body and give me more of a satiety which I am missing.  Thanks for the thinking points!

I wonder if I still malabsorb a significant amount of fat. I know we're supposed to malabsorb a little, but there's no agreement on how much. Three days last week I had over 150g of fat, though that was higher than usual. My daily average is probably 60 to 70g. I think it does keep me satiated, and I have not had an issue with constipation at all.

I find that if I'm doing mostly protein, and regulating calories, I don't need to worry about carbs. But it can work the other way just as well. If you keep carbs low, most people just won't cram enough protein in to go over on calories. Fat can be the limiting factor though, especially if the fat comes from something easy to eat way too much of, like nuts and cheese. Most of my fat comes from meat. I could eat a billion calories from nuts or cheese.

So true what you are saying re the nuts and cheese,

I think its great if people can not only regulate, but be satisfied with 1 oz of nuts.  Personally, I can control cheese but nuts are a whole 'nother issue.

I just don't keep them in the house anymore as they are too tasty and too easy to overeat.

RE fat malabsorption - I am sure I still malabsorb some.  Not to get into detail, but I use fat not only to satiate but to keep the body flowing so to speak and the organs happy.

By the end of year three almost everyone gains back about twenty pounds.  Saying you are eating four times as many calories as you should sounds like a wild guess to me.  Have you really been measuring food and counting calories?

To lose weight, I have to stay at 900 calories a day.  I lose a pound a week.  You can take diet supplements if you want to.  They did not work for me before surgery and do not work after surgery.  What causes the hunger is eating too many simple carbs.

It takes two or three days to detox from the carbs, but once you stop bread, rice, cereal, potatoes, pasta, noodles and sugar you will no longer feel hunger.  If you go to a high protein diet, and eat small frequent servings of meat you will start losing the weight and gain lots of energy.

Bounce-back weight is mainly from being so bored with the post-op diet.  The hardest part is getting started.

"Bounce-back weight is mainly from being so bored with the post-op diet."

-This really doesnt have to be. There are so many great recipes. Trying new things like braised radishes or cabbage recipes can really liven up a meal.  If someone is bored with the post op diet, they arent putting in enough time researching new foods, recipes and preperation techniques and cooking.

Well, that worked for me. Thinking about braised radishes and cabbage recipes has gotten me to completely lose my appetite.

Even with great recipes, techniques, lots of research, trial and error, it's easy to get burned out after a while. It certainly happened to me and I'm, to put it bluntly, a fabulous cook and have quite a large number of dishes in my repertoire. After so many years, because I cooked primarily like I do now way before surgery, ya sometimes just get soooo tired of cooking ANYTHING over and over and over. I guess it takes more time than I have to not EVER be burned out. Eventually, the new ideas get old, and the old ideas still too old to seem new again, if that makes any sense.

I do like to put down the cookbooks and stop looking at cooking blogs occasionally, but alas I guess I'm destined to be burned out if I do so.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...
