Overeating and starting to gain 2.75 yrs post op.

I was doing so good with eating healthy and maintaining my weight loss. But the past few months have been horrible. I eat 4 time as many calories as I should. I know I need to stop... But I just don't feel full. When I try to just not eat after I had an appropriate amount of food I feel like I am still starving and am going to go mad in my head if I don't eat more. I am wondering if a diet supplement can be taken after surgery. I need something to make me feel full. I have already gained 15lbs. I don't want to gain anymore.

Easiest thing to do is just to wean yourself off any bad stuff you're eating and get back to dense proteins and non-starchy veggies. Track your food. Measure or weigh like your portions and don't eat more. Up your water intake. You'll have to white knuckle it for a few days, but it can be done. I've had to do the same. Getting off the bad foods will make you feel full longer and you'll just feel better in general. My restriction is still there when I eat what I'm supposed to.

If those weight loss supplements worked...we wouldn't have needed surgery for weight loss.

It is fairly common at 2-3 years out to see a regain. You caught it early, and that's great. You can do this!

I know it's not much consolation, but you are at the point where it gets hard, really hard, for everyone.

If you can give us more information, we might be more help. The absolute best thing you can do to reduce cravings is get rid of carbs, as completely as you can. No sugar -- not even from fruit or milk. No carbs.

Dense protein. Try meals of meat only to get back on the wagon. Don't skimp on fat. Fat is very satiating. 

It helps me stick to my daily goals by weighing my portions and tracking every bite. It really helps me to rein in my portions.

Good luck. Catching this at 15 pounds is better than 30. But stick with it. Posting here every day helps. We see a LOT of people with posts identical to yours. They disappear, until a post a year later, saying they've gained 30 pounds, and disappear again. Then another year later, saying they've gained 50. Don't be like that. Get on this now, and stay on it.

When you see the same thing happen, over and over to different people, it's not hard to figure out. That's the easy part. Doing it is hard, really hard.

This is true. Even training for a half marathon if I were to freely eat what I want and when I was hungry, I would gain the weight back.

I am on the fitbit website every meal, every snack, multiple times per day that makes it real.

For example, this morning, I had 3/4 cup pork roast. I did my 7 mile hill run. It is lunch and I am ravenous. So I plotted my lunch and breakfast calories in and the website said "Hooray. You met your daily calorie goal!" 

I thought "What the hell?" and I looked at the calorie values. That 3/4 cups pork roast came out to be 607 calories!  I would have totally consumed WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more calories today had I not logged.

 

LOGGING and being aware of how much your eating and its caloric value at the meal and OVER THE ENTIRE SCOPE OF THE DAY really is critical.

SS--Are you adjusting your calories to account for the ones being burnt, by the training? You do know you need to be doing some carb loading, as part of the training, right?

Even the most seasoned runners can crash and burn, if that glycogen storage burns up. BTDT. Not fun.

Not trying to sound like a mean girl. Just sharing a truly non fun experience, from mile marker 10.

No I am not adjusting my calories. I eat volumes of food as the surgeon and his dietician recommended. On the carbs...I got pcos. Last month I ate more carbs than usual and had a two day period that was light. That is the problem with pcos...hormones and fertility. If I crash and burn and end up walking...that is life. I am not running for a time...or to win. I am too slow.ni am doing it to fini**** and if walking is it...we'll then that is what I have to do. I am considering some granola bars..,bit by bit on the route.  I am taking heed by hammer nutrtion for about 100 calories of complex carbs and electrolytes. Forgive typos... On ipad

I am not talking about CRASHING as in WALKING...I am talking about lying on the side of the course, cramping and unable to MOVE...Running/Walking one minute...then WHAM...

As post RNYers, obviously our needs are unique, from other runners/walkers...I had a REALLY hard time meeting that balance, at first. My first half- marathon, in 2009, I crashed at mile 8...right on the side of the road. It all has to be told to me, as I have NO MEMORIES, until 2 HOURS LATER, in the ER. I had trained religiously, and would have sworn I did everything correctly. It turned out I did NOT carb load properly. I was terrified of those carbs. I had been so anti carb, since my 2002 WLS. I had to take in account my age, body frame, etc, etc...which I did...but I didn't get those carbs. 

I am not trying to change your mind about anything ...just hoping to educate you, from the book of my experience. I, too, have PCOS, and have gone on to successfully complete 3 half-marathons, along with with countless 10Ks, 5Ks. Do I win? Only if U am the only one in my age division...lol...I am in it for ME...and for the various charities...the overpriced tee shirts...the fellowship...the cheers...and, of course...the post run snacks
