New and Nervous
Hello All,
I'm a newbie, still in the pre-op testing phase. My surgeon has recommended gastric bypass as opposed to the sleeve as I suffer from reflux. I'm starting to question if this is really the right procedure, concerned about complications both early on and life long. I feel like I'm mentally well prepared (as much as can be expected) for the changes, but I'm terrified after reading through some of the posts in these forums. If you could go back in time, would you have your surgery again? Any advice or opinions are welcome!
Please excuse any typos, I'm on my Kindle. :o)

I am going to be 15 years post op RNY in April and would do this surgery again in a heartbeat. I suffered from excessive GERD that literally left me eating tums (a lot of them) daily. It would wake me up at night and I would be in pain for hours. RNY cured that and I have not had one problem with reflux since. My Father had Esophageal Cancer which resulted from years of GERD. The only complication I have had has been a incisional hernia (open RNY) and vitamin deficiency which was my own fault. However, the deficiency was handled quickly and I am back on track. Just remember, ANY surgery has complications and requires a life time commitment.
Good luck to you :)
