You are welcome, Zonechef.  Curious, can you pin point one thing that made you transfer to alcohol addiction?  If not, may the AA meeting attendance give you a pocket of time for relief and rest for reflection.  Then, please come back here and let us know what kind of help we can be here, ok?

I'm glad to hear this. You may find you like one meeting but not another. Don't worry if the first one you attend just doesn't feel right. Try another. Sometimes it will feel like the whole meeting is just about you. Other times, not so much. But I always come away from a meeting with SOMETHING even it is just a positive feeling for having gotten my backside out the door and into a meeting. Most of the time I feel very much happier.

You may want to have a helper come and rid your home of alcohol (so you don't slip while disposing of it).

You have taken the hardest step by admitting the problem. Seek out a meeting of AA as soon as possible. If you don't mesh with the first group, try a different meeting. And keep us posted please. It will be a struggle but you're a strong person and can do us,especially with all of us cheering you on!

So sorry you are having this to deal with! However, you are headed in the right direction. You know you have a problem and you admit it. That is a big step already. Next contact AA. Having the right support will get you through this. Good luck!

Thank you for your honesty.  It's a somber reminder that the future is not guaranteed to be a slam dunk after WLS.

I hope you find the help you need.  Admitting you have a problem is the first step, so they say

You might want to check with your doctor about a prescription called antabuse.  My friend had a very hard time quitting for years.  One day he said he couldn't do it anymore and had read about antabuse, he went to his doctor and got a prescription for it.  In short you take it each day and it will cause a violent reaction to alcohol if consumed.  So if you do decide to drink it will make you feel really bad.  The effects of taking the pill will last several days so you can't just not take one in the morning and have a drink that night.  For him it helped him gain control for the first couple of months which were really hard for him.  Once he was past a few months he felt better and more in control of his actions, he did continue taking antabuse for about a year just to be sure.  He's now been sober for 4 years.

I just wanted to thank all of you *****ached out to me in my time of pain and downfall. Each of you had an effect through your advice as well as the comfort and inspiration you provided me. I took the advice of most off you to get to AA meetings which I began 10 days ago, and attended each day. After 6 days I felt strong enough to commit to go 24 hours without drinking. I have now been sober for 4 days, and I look forward to not drinking the next 24 hours. There are many aspects to the program; very different from my expectations and it has had amazing success with those who have been fortunate enough to embrace the program in their (our) quest to help ourselves and others suffering. Each day will be a challenge but I look forward to continuing sobriety based on the principles of this wonderful fellowship of recovery. While no-one knows what tomorrow will bring I have renewed hope and I thank each and every one of you who caringly assisted in helping to direct my path when I lost my way with your advice, support, and wisdom; Bless you all!
