Hair Loss

I started losing hair at about 4-5 months out and it continued for 15 months.  Some hair growth has returned, but not at all the same as it was before.  Although concerning for some, it really is the least worrying side effect of the surgery....to me, anyway.

It is really important to keep your protein up and iron (in my case) and I have my blood checked yearly at the clinic and at my family doctor's office.

Good luck!

I haven't loss any, thankfully. It would be a cruel joke in my case as I've lost about 60% of my hair before ever considering surgery.

I've definitely thinned out quite a bit.  Worst of it seemed to be around the 3-4 mth mark, now at 7mths it has slowed down.  I see it and feel it a lot, along with the tons of fly away hairs, but other people looking at me probably wouldn't.  Its not a great thing...but if its the only negative thing happens as a result of surgery...its well worth it.

I've always had thin hair, but a TON of it so it looked thick. I started losing at the 4 or 5 month mark, and it was SO noticeable to ME, but I think it just looked normal instead of thick to other people. I got it cut to shoulder length (it was almost to my butt) just to help me feel better about it. Not only am I IN LOVE with my short hair, but I don't notice the loss now at all. I think it's either slowing down or stopped now (7.5 months out) but I do the high protein and good fats thing.

Also, with the amount of weight you lose in the short amount of time, I guarantee, no one is looking at your hair! :)

I lost a lot of hair from the 3-8 month mark. I am now at 9 months out and it has slowed way down and I can see small wispy hairs growing in. If anyone else noticed, they haven't said anything.  I think we personally notice more than other people.

Yep. I'm close to 8 months and shedding like crazy. My clothes are constantly covered with hair, I've lost about 40% of my hair (which was fine to begin with).

Nobody seems to have noticed... I think they are looking at how my appearance has changed in other ways so they don't really see the hair as different! :D

Everyone is different. I have been on the boards for 10 years plus and some never lose hair and some lose a lot.  My best advice is just concentrate on your weight loss and goal and what is going to happen will happen.  Yes, it grows back. My hair was the only thing I like about myself when I was wearing a size 4x.  I lost so much of my hair you could see my scalp.  I wore a wig for a while.  Once it was starting to come back I got a cute short doo and it has all grown back!

Good Luck on your surgery and you are doing to do FINE!!!
