Next time I'm hungry.

I'm working on going down the weight scales a second time. I know about the rapid weight loss, maintenance, and regain. Now I'm trying to master losing.

I recently had a lot of BBQ in the house. I ate only meat for a about a week. Then I went back to my regular diet. I'm hungrier.Like times a 100.  So this week this is going to be my plan. I'm going to eat only protein. When I'm "hungry" sometimes the brain doesn't want meat.  Many times it thinks toast with lots of butter would be best. The only thing the brain is getting is protein, a little fat, and just enough carbs (about 30 gms) to not get a fuzzy brain. Or should I say a fuzzier brain.

In my brain carbs beget carbs. So I'm attempting to quiet my brain.

My favorite thing I ever learned here was "hunger is not an emergency" I think this will quiet the emergency in my brain.

What makes your hungry brain quiet?

I used to do that... Then I realized that proteins and fat are the best for me and my body.  IMO too much proteins is not that great... Can really put a lot of strain in on my kidneys.. But adding Fat makes a huge difference. I.e. chicken sauted in coconut oil with 1/2 avocado... And a couple of NSA pickles... Or I make a small salad - cucumbers + avocado + dill, add paper salt and vinegar and have that as my side to meat. Celery is really very low carb veggie- I mashed avocado, add some salt pepper and a touch of vinegar...and use that as a dip for celery. A couple of stocks is all I need.

As a snack I use higher fat nuts: macadamia, pecans, Brazil... Just for a small crunch.

If you do a lot of proteins - please pay attention to your minerals - salt magnesium and potasium... Plus water...

Muscle cramps + constipation is a major issue for me if I get too many proteins with not enough fats...

Beside that - good luck... And let us know how the new way of eating is working for you...

I'll eat fats and proteins.  It seems that the carbs pound my brain with "your hungry" messages. I wanna slow down that voice.

I am on steroids. Daily replacement dosage.  Most likely for life.  Steroids makes me super insulin resitant. And hungry for carbs. For me to avoid carbs is real deal. But too much proteins - because of steroids and my insulin resistance - would affect my BS.  I learned that too much proteins in one meal makes my body crazy hungry for the rest of the day.  Check "food insulin index".  Eating proteins stimulate insulin release... Eating fat does not.

I learned that to maintain my stable BS and not trigger "I'm starving" I need fat +proteins plus small amount of carbs to offset the BS fluctuation due to proteins... Just enough to prevent BS drop... My carbs come from nuts, avocado, low starchy veggies. my body can use "fiber" as carbs... Just enough to prevent BS drop...

Watch for that .... I used to check my BS every 10 min before then after the meals to see what my BS looks like after I eat some meals. That helped me determine the best diet for me.  Some days when I feel like I am starving - I check my BS and if it is normal for me... I know it is OK to wait... Go for a walk... Drink tea or water...

BTW: because I am on steroids that I take in divided dosages during the day, the seroids help maintain my BS during that time... So I also chose to follow IF (intermittent fast) diet.. (my doc approved) ...

Steroids can mess up a lot of stuff...

I have been on them for years and will be on a small dose for life. Fortunately this dose is tolerable. I really hate steroids.

I remember you mentioned steroids .. that's why I added my experience with them...  My doc (endo) is impressed that I have not gained weight while on them...  most people do. I did initially.. but then I had to do a reset and I lost 15 lbs...  still working on 10.. (8.5 today to be exact lol)

we need steroids.. We'll die without them... I needed to learn to live with them... and I get how hungry they can make you feel at time..."Fuck it all off" hungry... "chew my arm then eat a coworker" hungry... lol... My fasting BS is now 90-99...  my low BS symptoms start at 60...or below.. but when my sugar is is under 80...my body starts panicking...

hung in there...  jus****ch your body signals to see what works and what does not...

Most of the time, I'm pretty low carb. But once in a while I go off the rails and go carb heavy. And it always takes a little while to back off. They really do get you hooked.

I haven't had toast since surgery, but was recently at a friend's house, and they had just made some. I could smell the fresh toast from the driveway. I wanted to sit down with a loaf of bread and stick of butter, and go hog wild. It still has that pull.

I go the all meat route. Maybe meat and cheese. I normally have mostly protein, but this past week has been more fat grams than protein. I'm happy.

I can highly recommend toast if you ever need to regain. It's my devil. Took me 2 years post op to tolerate a piece of toast. Just kept trying and got very good at it.

Yeah, I could probably put away 2,000 calories in a sitting between the toast, butter, and peanut butter on top. it wouldn't shock me if it were 3,000 calories. I cringe when I see people having "just that one piece of dry toast." That's how it always starts.

If you work hard enough, you can accomplish anything. Even stuff that's very very bad for you.
