Death row last meal?

Hello! Brand new here! I have my rny scheduled for Leap Day! Monday 2/29/16

I've been practicing my future life style for months now and am doing really well. However with the surgery date mere days away I'm finding myself wanting to eat food that my mind is telling me I'll never be able to eat again. It's like I want my last meal while on death row.  I know I'll be able to physically eat pretty much anything in time but it's still a struggle.

Has anyone else felt this way and what did you do to overcome it?

I didn't overcome it-- I fed the need-- literally. Honestly-- what I ate for my "last meals" I knew i wouldn't be eating in that quantity/combination ever again-- it wasn't so much that I would have missed the foods.

For the record I had 2:

Fast food: Shake Shack Double bacon cheeseburger, cheese fries and a strawberry shake

and a homemade meal, just a traditional Sunday dinner

Oh and i felt MISERABLY sick after the Sunday dinner meal I had-- I even journaled about it and re-read it often now that I'm post-op to remind me how miserable eating to excess made me feel.

I did feel that way,  but I was required to be on liquid diet for a week before surgery.  I was afraid a big meal would screw it up and do I abstained.

I'm 6 months postop and down 106lbs from my high, about 80 since surgery.  I'm not regretting skipping it.  I eat all kinds of tasty food and get satisfied.

I honestly miss very few foods, even though I thought I would.  I just don't have a taste for them anymore.  The only thing I wish I could eat is bread, rice, and pasta - not because I necessarily miss them, but more because it would expand my options quite a bit.  But there are plenty of things I could eat once I was a few months out, so it's really not a problem

My surgery for RNY is scheduled for the same day!  I don't have a liquid diet requirement, and yes, I've been going on a "farewell tour" of sorts myself.  I had a gyro last night, but only ate a bit of the pita bread since it's not really my favorite part anyway.  I had 2 donuts from my fave donut place a week ago.  (maple bacon)  I've been trying to spread it out and not go hog wild, but I haven't lost any weight in the past few weeks.  Thank goodness I'm not required to do that either.  I'm also reminding myself that this surgery doesn't mean I'll NEVER eat anything good again.

My experience: At the beginning, it's not as difficult as you'd think.  I'm 4 months post RNY.  I really used to love food....I worried a lot about missing stuff.  As of now, I really dont have any cravings of note.  I miss things out of habit....when I go to a bar, I find myself wishing I could have a burger....but the thought of eating it doesnt appeal to me.  Its very obvious that its all in my head, not my stomach.  Cravings just havent been a big issue for me.

How cool you are taking a Leap of Faith on Leap Day.  For me, healthy food choices have become PREFERRED, not forced.   The whiff of a fast food takeout bag makes me wonder, "what was the attraction?"  I started the post-op lifestyle months before WLS so maybe that is why I didn't experience what you are going through.  I think overcoming poor food choices just happened when my old habits got replaced for better ones.

For fun, I googled "last meal requests on death row" and most were protein-forward choices like shrimp, steak, chicken, lobster, eggs, and KFC. (there were two exceptions: one for ice cream and one for an olive)
