I'm pre-op right now and I just wanted to say that this post really gives me hope that I won't be struggling as much post-op as I am now.

You are welcome.  Often, I go back and re-read my replies--this one wrongfully sounds like I'm 100 percent "cured."  It's true, healthy choices and good habits are preferred. However, there are still days when the struggle to stay on track is real.   I committed a crime of self-abuse for years, lived imprisoned in a SSMO body, was granted release from that prison and given a second chance through WLS.  Looking at my unclothed body, feeling pain from worn joints, and living with Type II remission makes it clear I'll be paying for my sins a lifetime. Repentance, gratefulness, and effort keeps me in line for the most part.  You'll see, WLS will help make your weight loss goals more attainable.

Endnote: Sorry I typed the preface words "For fun..." re googling death row meals.  What's fun about that?!  (Note to self:  proofread more)

There were a few things I had because I knew it would be a good while before I could have them or at all. I'm 2 months out and really don't miss bread/rice.

I had a waffle from waffle house. I did use the sugar free syrup and I didn't eat it all.I also had some hash browns also, scattered with ketchup.

I think I had a couple donuts.

I wanted some wanton soup but didn't get around to eating that.

Haha, that's a way to put it. Last tues was my last meal before liquid diet, and I did it up. After I was finished with it, I knew I was ready! Don't ask me why, I just knew. I'm doing very well on the liquid diet now, hungry at times but I try and keep busy to keep my mind of eating due to boredom. Good luck!

Many years out and there is no food that I couldn't eat if set my mind to it. It might make me sick, or lower my blood sugar dangerously, or get stuck but I could and have eaten it.

But believe me it's so much easier if you don't see it as something to overcome and look at it like it the new big giant adventure it is. Immediately pre and post operative diets are ordered by the surgeon. The cutter. The one going in an rearranging your guts. Whatever that doctor orders is what you eat to maximize your immediate recovery.

You will start healing and advancing your diet. Your feeling and intake of food is gonna really change and then get to your new normal.

I'm fascinated with death row, death row meals. Just some trivia I find interesting. Change it to a last fling or something. You aren't going to your death.

My last meal before surgery was stale frosted flakes.  Interesting. The one food I never eat anymore. Cereal and milk.

Just about everyone felt that way -- I did.

Just about everyone gave in and splurged, at least a bit. -- I did.

Just about everyone eventually realizes it was completely unnecessary -- I did.

Good luck on the 29th!  What a leap to take on leap day.  :)

When I read posts like this I worry if people REALLY are ready for surgery. I am going on 14 years post op and a bit below goal . I had months of counseling pre op and perhaps that's why I felt no need to have a 'final meal' yes your stomach gets rearranged but folks this is a surgery that requires your mind to rethink how you feel about food. I wish you all the best

I ate a bunch of these death row meals... I had no liquid diet prior to surgery so the last was a few days before... it's funny I was saying goodbye more to quantity because fast forward a year or so and I could really eat most of those last supper items with a few modifications. I probably just should have chugged a whole bottle of something... can't really chug liquid now.

You know I think you will find life on the other side of WLS is very tasty... well after the first few months (phasing in to solids) and that not a whole lot is restricted... I think you will find as you feel healthier and the scale is dropping.... you will feel those old life foods hold less importance and the few you can't/shouldn't have you may not even want.
