Nervous about meal planning after surgery
Hi karen,
I'll check at Walmart for that. That'll be very helpful! Especially when going to my father in law house. Can make zucchini or carrot straws to have with the pasta sauce.
So note to self - don't have a lot of oats. I assume oatmeal is the same thing.

At my NUT classes, they showed visuals like a serving of meat the size of a deck of cards which is about 3-4 ounces, a portion of vegetables should fit in the palm on your hand, and to eat no more than one cup of food at one time lifetime. Yes, rice flour pasta and potatoes are considered poor food choices--we were instructed to eat dense proteins and vegetables. Valuable advice worth sharing is to tell you I have witnessed and read about too many WLSers falling victim to alcohol addiction and think it is wise to change the six-month alcohol avoidance rule to a lifetime avoidance rule just to be on the safe side. Against some veteran advice, I do have a homemade Nutribullet protein smoothie most mornings, especially in the summer. My concoction is a ritual I think is worth it; it has ingredients I wouldn't consume otherwise...Kefer, flaxseed oil, protein powder, spinach, wheat germ, berries, and more. I tend to eat the same 'ol things day-in and day-out in an attempt to view food as fuel for the body and nothing else. I was super, super morbidly obese and have been warned I have a higher tendency for regain. I take that warning seriously and choose to have a low interest in recipes and meal planning. What are my downfalls? Too much coffee, too little exercise, and not following the one-cup rule when it comes to lettuce salad. Life's not perfect but far better than before--you'll see. Jen, there's no need to apologize about being nervous; it means you are concerned about making your future better, too. Go, Jen.
Thanks Selhard. That's something great advice - especially how to measure the food in your palm and 3-4 ounces if food like a deck of cards. That makes things a lot easier!
Where did you get that recipe " for your protein shake? Or was it just trial and error?
I'm 243 lbs right now and scared of regain like you. So I think I'll be much like you add stick with things I know works and know how to make rather than trying out new recipe's. That's where the nervousness comes in. This forum is really helping me. I'm also reading the book " weight loss surgery cookbook for dummies "- which gives me recipes and meal planning ideas for each stage after surgery.
Thanks so much for your reply and keep up the great worklifestyle that you are currently doing!
Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Think od your pouch a prime real estate. You need to get in 80 grams of protein so the first thing in your mouth should be protein. After protein if you have room comes vegetables. Usually by then you are full. If you fill up on carbs you will have trouble getting in all your protein.
After surgery try to put protein in everything you eat. You will not make 80grms right away. But protein helps you heal. One person posted they would portion out protein prowder and add a bit to everything all day. You have applesauce then mix in unflavoured protein powder. It is a lot of change. Try to look at what you eat now and how you can change it to be compliant
Hi Patm,
That's great advice. I was worried about doing both protein, veggies and fruit. But since saying protein is the most important thing than I'll do that.
Thank you so much for your help!
