Hi I am trying to loose some regain and was wondering what low carb program do you follow?

Atkins, South beach, or do you just make your own.  If so how many carbs do you aim for a day?

Thank you ahead of time for your help

I make up my own. Commercial diet programs have become nothing more than a way to sell over priced highly processed foods. 50 carbs or less per day is a typical recommendation, but some people aim for even lower. I don't advise going too low because it is healthy to include things like plain greek yogurt, nuts, and non-starchy veggies in your diet, and they all contain carbs. On the other hand, simple carbs from processed foods should be avoided as much as possible.

When I was in hardcore losing weight mode, for my first 8-12 months, my carbs were at or under 30 g a day.  Now, that sounds impossible - as I struggle with maintenance.  But as long as you can keep your carbs low, logging your every bite into MyFitnessPal or Lose It, the better you may do!  There is no nutritional value in pasta, crackers, chips, etc.  But we all know they taste good.  LOL.

My own. With 900 Calories per day average, using fish-meat-eggs as proteins, non starchy veggies.. No processed food like protein shakes or protein bars...

My plan is:

60-80 gr of proteins = 240-360 Calories

30-50 gr of carbs = 120 - 200 Calories

Rest calories from fat, at least 50% : 450 cal =50 + gr of fat.

And I make sure every of my meals / snacks are balanced : for every 10 gr of proteins I make sure I get no more than 5gr of carbs and no less. 5- 10gr of fat...

My typical day has: 70gr protein + 55 gr fat 35 gr of carbs... (280+495+140~~900 cal)

That works very well for me. I make sure I never eat the same food every day.. Rotate ..and rotate between 800 to 1000 Calories per day. Averaging 900 /day for week or 10 days.. - makes the body wonder... (Google calories cycling)

I don't follow a commercial program, but  mine is moderately low carb (as opposed to ultra low carb).  It's rare for me to go over 80 g of carbs a day.  So I guess that's more like a South Beach kind of thing?

It's not a program. It's just low carb. If I've gone nuts for a week on carbs, I go zero carbs for a week to balance things. So I eat meat. No carbs. Just meat.

There is a male RNYer in our support group who eats primarily just meat.  Could it be a guy thing because my always thin DH doesn't do well without his meat, either.  Recently, we filled the freezer with one of our home-raised, grass-fed steers.  When shopping at a local food coop, I noticed grass-fed beef sells for $12.00 per pound and cage-free eggs are $4.00 per dozen...we've been giving away both which explains how appreciative family and friends have been.

I follow a kind of classic Atkins, minus all the store-bought stuff... which didn't exist back when the good doctor invented it.  I allow more carbs in the summer when I bike, fewer in the winter when I don't.  Works for me.

I toss in a protein bar about once a week or so when necessary (Pure Protein chocolate deluxe are my fav because they are the lowest sugar alcohols I can find that only slightly taste like tile grout).
