Having a lot of trouble eating anything
Hi,
I'm 8 weeks out from surgery but spent the first 4 in the hospital with major complications. I know I should be eating a lot more than I am but I can't find many things to eat that don't make me gag. I can do soup broths and yogurt but most protein shakes taste horrible as do eggs, chicken, tuna, etc. I know I'm not getting anywhere near the nutrition I need. Anyone else going/gone through this and do you have any ideas?
My gag reflex is extremely close to the middle of my tongue. Is that normal? Any thoughts?
Thanks so much!!!

To this day, there are very few protein shakes that I don't hate. So that's probably common enough. And our tastes change quite a bit immediately post-op!
If you're concerned about nutrition, call your surgeon's office; they can advise you on the best course of action, and any other testing/appointments you may need.

I had the surgery in Mexico. I guess they had me out a really long time to take out the old lap band. I ended up with septicemia, pneumonia, failed kidneys and had to have a blood transfusion. I was unconscious for all of it. They sent me by ambulance to the border but the american ambulance that was supposed to meet me didn't arrive. The Mexican ambulance ended up taking me to Chula Vista and I was in ICU there for several more days before I woke up. I think this could have happened anywhere but I'm really sorry I did it. Nothing has turned out like I hoped. I guess what bothers me the most is the Dr. who did the surgery, no one in his organization has tried to contact me, they don't know if I lived or died and don't seem to care.
Dear Lord! I'm glad you're here to tell us about it! Once you are feeling better, please sit down and write this out and email or somehow send the info to that surgeon. The lack of caring part is the part that bothers me most I guess....
