I feel for you as I am doing the same thing. I too have gained since my surgery and came back on her to help me lose it again. You can do this!! We can do this!! Follow the recommendations of protein first and tracking  food. I fell into the carb haze and graze and just did not feel like it would affect me. Boy, was I wrong. Those old habits creep back up slowly. Take care and I will be here is you need help! :)

The 5 day pouch test is just another fad diet and the liquid protein will leave you feeling very hungry. Like the others said go back to dense protein like steak, chicken or fish and measure out about 31/2 or 4 oz per meal and pair with about 1/2 c of non starchy veggies like broccoli or green beans. No more than one cup of food per meal. Get rid of the carbs like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. It will be tough and you will crave them at first but it gets better. Liquid proteins work great after surgery when you have a swollen and tiny pouch, but your pouch is now mature and slightly larger so now your focus needs to be measuring dense foods to keep you full for longer.

Karen, I don't profess to be a doctor nor know everything but I do have an opinion.  I don't agree with you that the 5 day pouch test is a fad..It helps jump start the weight loss to success and victory of the bad habits...So why put down what can not only help but confirm?

But does anyone need to go back to liquids when they are so far out?

If you let old habits back in why torture ones self with liquids when you or anyone just have to get back to the dense proteins?

It will turn into a vicious circle of 5 day pouch test lose some weight, go back to not following the plan, do 5 day pouch test lose some weight, go back to not following the plan.  Why?

What do you mean when you say "so far out?" What do you consider far out? It's what works for a person...Even after 8 years I still love protein shakes.

Just for me, it's about a process and everything happens in natural order..including liquid to dense protein, after all wasn't that the process after WLS - from shakes to dense protein? Just for beginners, remember the jello?  What about having some confidence in self? Believing that it can be done, will be done and will be done? That's one reason why I love OH....So often, outsiders are haters....I need "insiders" to say "Yes, You Can!"

If that helped you get back on track, then great. I am glad it worked for you. What the others on here are trying to say is that it is simply unnecessary. The point of the progression following WLS is to allow you to heal. Once you are healed, there is no longer any reason to go back to that plan, but if you think that is what you need, go ahead. Just know that there are other ways to get back on track that I would recommend over the 5 day pouch test. It really is a fad diet just like so many others, and I have always chosen to avoid fad diets because the weight typically comes back once the diet is over. Long term success is about building lifetime habits. I wish you nothing but the best.

Thank you Maria27....That's why I love being able to say that what works for you may not work for me and vice versa....  and I don't get upset with anyone because I know ALL of us are different and our makeup is different...Make sense?

I know you did the 5 day pouch test cp and did have weight loss there. Most importantly you got away from the carbs and back on track. You did great! But you could have done the same think by what I suggested. The dense proteins will keep you feeling full unlike the shakes for most people and are the way we need to be eating every day for the rest of our lives. Why not start life time habits right now instead of 5 days from now?!
