Can you eat fruit or does it cause dumping?
Fruit can cause some people to dump. Sugar is sugar, whether it comes from a banana or a Little Debbie.
Adding fruit to protein shakes is a slippery slope. It starts to add up to a lot of extra calories that you don't need, and just begins a bad habit.
There are a thousand protein shakes out there. It really is best if you find one that works for you without adding stuff to it.

Thank you for replying. I keep looking for a protein drink that does not have a sugar substitute but so far everything I have found does have one kind or another. Then if it doesn't, it has sugar which along with that lots of calories and a chance of dumping.
I am so at a loss as to what I will be able to do. I really don't want to go down that slippery slope you speak of. I guess my only option will be not to use any protein shakes.
I'm not sure where you are looking, but plenty of protein powders have no sugar or artificial sweetners. Most have very little sugar. Ready to drink shakes have a little more, but that's from the liquid they are mixed in. You will get a LOT more sugar from even half a banana than you will from a good quality whey protein isolate protein powder.
It's good to worry about sugar and dumping. But you are worried too much, about the wrong things.

I understand what you are saying and I really appreciate the input. I may have not made myself clear or I may have stated it wrong. I have not found any Protein SHAKES that have no sugar or sugar substitutes that don't require some kind of sweetener to be added to them. I really don't know anything about protein powders or shakes, what is available and what can be done with them to make them taste good with my restrictions plus keep me losing well. I am trying to gather as much info as I can so I know what to have at home for after surgery since I will have to purchase a lot of things via the internet. I am trying to prepare so that I have a variety of things that provide the protein that I need no matter what I can or can't tolerate.
I guess I have been worried about the sugar and dumping because I have not found a way to use protein shakes because of my limitations. I want to make sure that I can get in the protein I need when I am on liquids after surgery. I have purchased whey protein powder that has no flavor or sweeteners of any kind, to add to things like soup.
I was focusing on the fruit being added to protein shakes because that was the only way I could think of to make the unsweetened SHAKES drinkable. I am looking for any suggestions, tips and recipes to help me get the best results possible during my weight loss journey that incorporates my additional dietary restrictions. I will be new to this surgery and I am not creative when it comes to finding things to eat so I need all the help and guidance I can get.
I have been looking at the posts of what people have been eating to get some ideas. There have been a lot of things that I have found that are very helpful. I have noticed though that most people seem to use a lot of things that are sugar free, which usually contain sugar substitutes that I can not use. I have come to the conclusion that ANYTHING sweet will be off my list completely. I know sweet is a bad thing when trying to lose weight so it is a good thing that I won't be able to do sweet. It will just make it a lot harder not being able to use sugar substitutes.
Sorry to ramble on. Thank you for your input. You have really made me do some thinking.
Hi Cocotopaz,
I cannot digest whey protein, so I use Sunwarrior Classic Protein. The Natural flavor has no sugar, but I cannot say how it tastes, as I only ever use the Chocolate and Vanilla ones. The good thing about them is that they are inoffensive in taste and somewhat pleasing once you get used to them. They are not thick. I mix only with plain cold water, as I agree with others here that blending up your fruit is not a good idea for many of us, as you destroy the fiber and cause the fruit sugars go right down to your intestines. Good luck!
Unjury also has a flavor free protein which you may be able to sprinkle in your breakfast lunch and dinner. It seems to me that if its flavor free it probably doesn't have any sugar or sugar substitutes but I am not sure about that. Anyway its an idea. I hope you find something that works!

I think you are right Deanna. That may be my only option. Thank you for the info about the chicken soup. I will check it out.
