It's pretty much Wild Kingdom where I live, too.  You never know what you're going to see on the lawn when you pull up.  LOL  My husband got a squirrel that's been raiding the bird feeder with a 22 last weekend.

Is the feeder on a pole? I heard to spray down the pole with wd-40 or some other type of oil and they won't get to it.

No, this particular one is hanging from a tree branch, but what a great idea!

I have one squirrel, let's call him patches since he has a funky patch of fur missing from his hindquarters.  Patches is a master of eating from my "squirrel proof" birdfeeders, the little ******  I've taught the 2 year old to chase them away by pounding on the sliding glass door.  Sometimes we open the door and yell at them.  I don't think it would be safe to get my 22 out and shoot him, since it's a pistol and I'm just an okay shot! LOL.

I'm in a subdivision, but I'm partially out in farmland about 40 miles west of Detroit.  we are backed up by at least 20 acres of woods, and there is wildlife everywhere.  We saw coyotes last fall, scared the crap out of my mother in law, because she watches my 2 year old and was afraid to take him out to play in the backyard for a few weeks.  We have no fences.  but, the only time we get gunfire here is when there is a felony in progress!

I live in the suburbs of Los Angeles about 3 miles from the foothills.  A few weeks ago I was driving on a saturday night and 3 animals ran in front of my car.  My mother was in the car with me and thought they were cats.  Nope, 3 Raccoon.  A mom and 2 babies.  All night all I could think about was my open doggie door and hoping that my dog didn't invite them in for a play date!

I live in the city, so my idea of wild life is crows and squirrels. The squirrels are super fat this winter, and the crows are super obnoxious. Do bears eat crows? Can I rent a bear?
