What's On Your Tuesday Menu, RNYers?
Earworms....oh man, I have also had Cake by the Ocean stuck in my head since Saturday. They use that song in my Zumba class and it always sticks with me after! LOL
I am getting SO SICK of this whole dense protein problem I have. My stomach just cannot handle most of it! I used to LOVE steak so friggin much. Made it last night, nice tender, marinated steak. I chewed and chewed and chewed.....10 minutes later I have dealing with the friggin SLIME FROM HELL. Then up it all comes. EVERY damn time. Yet stupid me, keeps trying to eat it! Steak, pork, chicken ....why do you hate me so?? It frustrates me because I need these dense foods to stay full, but the damn slider foods (even protein forward ones) just go down so much easier.
(almost) 10 months since surgery
B: 1c Fairlife skim milk, 1 scoop Syntrax milk chocolate
L: 3.5oz starkist white albacore tuna, 1.5 tbsp light mayo
D: Nom nom paleo kalua pork (we'll see how this goes, since it is dense protein)
S: Dannon L&F Greek yogurt w/ 1oz cashews, dill pickles w/ 1 baybel light cheese
Totals: Cals: 711 Protein: 94 Carbs: 31 Fat: 27
I know it sucks that you get sick every time, but I will say there were definitely things I couldn't tolerate at say 6 months that when I tried again at 12 months were fine - so if it's something you do WANT to incorporate into your eating and it's a good choice (as in dense protein, not cupcakes LOL) then keep trying it every month or 6 weeks.
Like I couldn't eat deli meat until like a year out without being sick, but then sliced ham became a go-to snack for months!

How about some fish? I used to hate fish pre-op unless it was fried, but I can eat it all day long now. I just get wild caught cod and bake it. Great protein and it's filling, but still light and flaky. It is fast and easy to cook as well, so if your kids and hubby don't like fish you can just throw a small portion in for yourself.
Ummm yeah, I wasnt a big fish fan before surgery, and I have found that after surgery I like it even less. The only fish I can tolerate right now is canned tuna, which I have never really been a fan of.
Im sure all of this is in my head....but kind of hard to change that when its all NOPE NOPE NOPE just from the smell of fish makes me want to run the other way!
I made fish on Sunday for dinner, made my husband promise to try it. He took a bite, and looked at me with a grimace, so I went and threw a couple frozen breaded chicken patties in the oven for him.
We have a dinner date next saturday with friends, we're doing dinner at The Real Seafood company in Ann Arbor. I always look at menus before we go, he'll be having a steak, lol.
Melissa, you and me are basically the same person, I swear!
I say that I don't eat things that "swim or scuttle." When I used to just say things that swim then snotty people would always be like "What about crabs? Or lobster? They don't swim, do you eat them?" Swimming also include duck - they mostly hang out in the water so I don't eat that either.
I've TRIED to like fish - especially post-op since I know it's such a great, healthy, protein option - but I just can't! I fully admit that the whole lobster/shrimp/crab thing is because they look like bugs to me and gross me the heck out - but the nice, mild, flaky fish? I want to like you, I just can't!

i know just how you feel i really struggle getting my protein from meat type foods. unless its super tender and in broth soup or something like that i foam, slime, and up it comes. even like super tender pot roast does it to me. the tuna packets work well for me or a bite of canned chicken since its really just like tuna works. at least your not alone ...hugs
