When can I go back to work
I had my surgery on 3/10 and went back to work on 3/23. I too work mainly on a computer from my home. I also do travel usually a couple of days a week through out the state I live in. I think the following week I was back on the road. I took 9 working days off. I also just took it as vacation days and other than close co-workers nobody knew I was off for surgery!
You should always follow your doctor's instructions.
Having said that, it seems like if you are working from home on a computer, you should be able to start back up long before 6 weeks. I took two weeks off (I'm a HS teacher), and I could've went back after a week if I had to.
At six weeks, I was cleared from all physical restrictions. Working on a computer should be able to happen way before that.

150 lost and maintaining!
As a mental health professional (full disclosure--pre-op RNY:)) I would like to add to the conversation that taking time off of work is also for your mental health. The surgery is asking a lot from many parts of your body--including your brain. It takes time for our brains and minds to integrate new patterns, new ways of eating, thinking, behaving. Giving yourself time (if you are able to) to get these new ways of being and thinking, integrated into your life, will be a good help to make those lifelong changes to our behaviour and our thinking!
