Dr. said band to sleeve surgeries are likely to be unsuccessful. RNY better shot!??

I met with my doctor the other day and he said band to sleeve operations are rarely successful. He said the weight regain occurs a lot faster or very little weight is lost anything at all.

needless to say I am very disappointed to hear this and I am reaching out for success stories. Beyond three years that it was if there are any? I just can't believe this is true and I feel like I remember reading success stories. Perhaps, this has to do with his technique and this is why this is happening. He seems to think that you just never get the sensation of being satisfied... I think most disturbing is that he said some patients never really leave anything at all...

By all means I don't want to offend anyone I'm just repeating what I heard and effort to get some clarity and perhaps some inspiration. FYI he also said that a gastric bypass is the best way to go for sustainable weight loss.

I had the crap band. Got a GI bleed and converted to a sleeve. Lost a little weight and gained it back. I got the RNY and its the best thing that has ever happened to me.

I've seen MANY lose LOTS of weight with the sleeve. Although I'm RNY, I'd easily disagree that you don't lose much weight a VSG-- I think you can lose lots. I do think keeping it off is equally difficult, not matter the surgery. You can regain with RNY OR VSG.

Now that being said, I've heard the same from some of my doctors (PCP, GYN, Endocrinologist) that they feel RNY is the 'better' procedure.

I'll also offer my sister had VSG over two years ago, never made it to goal, (she wanted to lose about 160) lost about 80 and regain about 20 of that. i can 100% say she does not eat like she is supposed to-- though she maintains a great exercise regimen. She is tryig to get back on track- and it working, to the extent she steys on track.

Oh-- and I agree 100% about the band. I've seen a few successful banders, but none w/o complication of some fashion.

Hi, my doctor said the same thing, and further, he said he wanted to do the RNY because he knew it would last 25 years. I was 65 at the time of my surgery and found that tidbit good news.

Thank you also very much definitely useful and valuable information. I didn't check post this on the sleeve bored I felt it was important to get the perspective on both sides. Fortunately I was told that I should probably move on as his skills might not be terribly confident in this area as there's so many examples of success stories. For both RNY and sleeve conversions. Thank you also very much these boards are certainly in valuable
