Bypass or sleeve?

I went with RNY because I had severe GERD and my surgeon warned VSG would likely make it worse. I'm really glad he led me in that direction, because RNY eliminated the frequent GERD-related nausea I had for years pre-op that wasn't even controlled by 40mg daily of Prilosec.
On the other hand, my husband had VSG and has done wonderfully. Both have their pros and cons. He has GERD now when he didn't before surgery, and he throws up if he overeats. I take a few more vitamins and get reactive hypoglycemia if I eat too many carbs in isolation (I've never dumped, though). We both feel we absolutely made the right decisions for ourselves. Your mileage may vary.
The biggest advantage for me was that RNY has a better effect on diabetes compared to the sleeve. This was my major reason for going with the bypass. Also, the average weight loss with RNY is better than the sleeve https://asmbs.org/resources/studies-weigh-in-on-safety-and-e ffectiveness-of-newer-bariatric-and-metabolic-surgery-proced ure
However, as you can see from many people on here, the biggest factor in your success is YOU. If you work hard, and stick to your plan, you can be successful with any procedure.

150 lost and maintaining!
I was a professional dieter, but I had gotten to a point in my life even when I was dieting and "doing the right thing" I wasn't losing anything significant. I wanted the advantage of malabsorption to get me on my way. I am just shy of 18 months out at just shy of goal. No regrets.
