Are there any runners on this thread? I read in another thread it isnt a good idea to start running until you are under 200. Is that true?

I have long admired all your running posts! I have never heard of the "200-pound rule" before either. But I am going to be an Eeyore here and say that it might be wise to wait until one's weight is lower. I was very very active for many years, even though I was overweight. Eventually, after a fourth baby, my weight was going up even more and I decided to really kick things up by running, doing interval training, etc. I was stretching and building up slowly, followed C25K, then followed Hal Higdon really religiously. I was training toward a half-marathon and had run a 10K. I believed that if I exercised more and harder, I would eventually lose weight.
However, after about a year of training, it led to a series of injuries--meniscus tear and Achilles tear. The Achilles tendon will not heal in spite of six years of work with doctors and therapists. It has become a chronic, crippling thing. If I could do it again, I would wait to run until my weight was less. I would have kept walking. I miss SO MUCH the physical activity I used to do--the walking, running, biking, kayaking, hiking. IMO, better to walk your whole life than to run and then not be able to even walk.
That really sounds pitiful and whiny and like I am telling her not to run. Not saying don't, just saying wait. I do think it is wise to limit the strain on our joints and tendons. Running is a great stressor to those things, and the extra weight really adds to that, especially when you do high intensity training.
I am another example of a person who tried to run at a heavy weight. I also unbeknownst to me had rheumatoid arthritis and totally destroyed both my knees. If you have pain at all please stop. I got to goal weight post op by only walking and you can too. I can't run now because I had to have knee replacements on both sides and running is a big no no. But I love to walk and do 31/2 to 4 miles each and every day!
Do you play one on tv? Cuz I think that counts too
I really only asked here because I read it in a thread on OH. I had never heard it. I also think I am still thinking likr a SMO person, being 200 pounds overweight. And running probably isn't a good idea. Being 50 overweight and running is probably normal. I haven't wrapped my brain around normal..... Or the new normal.
I'm also a runner and haven't heard that. I read Runners World and they run stories occasionally about higher weight runners. When I started running I started with an interval program where I would alternate running and walking, slowly increasing my running time while decreasing the walking time. I think you should be ok as long as you don't have joint pain. I echo Mamata though, I'm not a doctor and you should check to make sure it's safe before you start a hard core running program. Good luck!
Good morning. I'm on the "week is dragging" side of the fence. I can't wait for the weekend.
Here's my plan for the day. I'm trying to go as low carb as possible to try and lose some weight, which is stubbornly hanging on. I'm thinking I may have to drop my calories down back below 800 to get it off (which is going to be HARD)
B: Ground turkey, spinach and cheese
L: Chicken Thigh and snap peas
D: Zucchini boat
S: light and fit salted caramel (forgoing my beloved peanut butter or PB2) turkey and cheese roll up
