2 people + RNY = almost 500 lbs. lost (pic included)
Hello RNY peeps,
I had the immense pleasure of meeting Grim Traveler for breakfast this morning, here in DC. He was passing through and we met for coffee (me) and bacon (Grim). Since joining OH in the summer of 2013, when I was starting the process for my RNY in December of 2013, Grim was an inspiration. Like many of you, I was nervous and cautiously optimistic. Would this work? Would I lose weight? Would I die on the operating table? When I joined, I saw this guy posting helpful comments who had lost an astounding 298 lbs! It gave me hope - I mean, **** he lost almost 300 lbs? Maybe I could do this too?
With Grim's guidance (and a whole lot of help from other vets like Laura in Texas and Lora and too many other people to name), I learned how to follow my plan, eat low carb and high protein, weigh my food, get moving, not drink with meals, and stay on top of vitamins. I am proud to say I lost nearly 200 lbs in just over a year.
It struck me this morning, sitting across from Grim, that the two of us have lost nearly 500 lbs. That. Is. Insane. And here is Grim, 3.5 years out and me, 2.1 years out, working hard at maintenance. Grim still eats six small meals a day, consisting of meat :) I eat 4 times a day, mostly chicken and shrimp and turkey and cheese and eggs. Are either of us perfect with our eating? Hell no! We have had some popcorn and chocolate chip incidents, which we had a big laugh over. But one thing we both did? We were HARDCORE on plan until reaching goal. I don't want to preach the "maintenance is a *****" over and over, but maintenance is a *****! So if you're reading this and wondering if you can make your tool work for you, I highly recommend you eat dense protein and skip the carbs and alcohol until you reach goal. It worked for us, and it will work for you if you make the decision to stay on plan!
