Considering revision from VSG to RNY -- Questions about RNY

Rocky! I remember you. Good to hear from you. Yes, someone from OH tech support contacted me about restoring my old info. We have new insurance but the old and current allow for revisions. You'll remember who I am when I get my original info up and running. I have no idea where it went, I was on as recently as 6 months ago.

I had the VSG and had no nausea and it actually stretched out. I just had revision in October.

I had a few months of in and out of the hospital due to intestinal and stomach issues. From what I have read this is not the norm.

I can say that I am having more success with RNY then the band and VSG!! I am at my lowest weight ever right now.

I wish you luck.

Thanks so much for this. I think you're the first person I've talked to online who has done this, specifically. What happened with your VSG, more specifically? What was the time span between the VSG and the RNY?

My story is a long story. I had the crap band I mean lap band back in 2006. I ended up with a GI bleed and the band came out. Of course I gained all the weight back and then some. I had the VSG in 2011, I had lost a good amount of weight but it did not stay off. I never felt much of a restriction or anything like that. So exactly 4 years later I had the RNY. It has been great in regards to weight loss and restriction. I did end up in the hospital for malabsorption, panceatitis, and and ulcer but this is not the norm. I can not spell today LOL.

From reading this board I see most people are very successful and happy with their result. I would follow the WHAT ARE YOU EATING TODAY thread. Good Luck

Revision on 12/30/15
I had my sleeve done in 2012 and had a lot of nausea. On 12/30/2015 I had my revision to an RNY, I have not had any nausea with this surgery. Only thing that is bothering me is that my stomach muscles are very sore but my doctor said that was normal. Prayers for what ever you do.

To be honest, not once have I experienced nausea due to my RNY.   Dumping? Yes.   Food stuck? Yes.   Feeling full?  Yes.   Foamies?  Yes.   What I loved about the RNY is that you eat until you start to feel full and then stop and you should not experience the nausea.  However, everyone is different.  My only advice would be if you do decide to revise to RNY, "listen" to your pouch and eat mindfully, so that you feel that sense of fullness and stop eating before you over do it.

Good luck in your decision.

Hi,

I had a sleeve in 10/2010.  I was very successful with wt loss, however I had a ton of issues with severe GERD.  I was nauseated at times but the bigger issue was that food would occasionally just pop up.  I inhaled gastric contents when I slept and have had 5 aspiration pneumonias since last May and chronic esophagitis for years.  I was revised to a RNY 12 days ago.  My reflux so far is GONE.  I will say I am more queasy as I am trying to start advancing my diet and probably the pain meds but even though  im only 20 lbs or so over where I want to be... I have already lost 11 lbs!   I know it will slow way down, but for now I am enjoying it!   Good luck.

Thank you Amy. It sounds like they did the RNY when you were very close to goal, so it must have been for purely medical reasons. Did you use your original surgeon or did you go to someone new. I love the surgeon who did my VSG, but have been referred to someone who is locally famous and known, especially, for revisions. I'll see him, then I'll decide what to do and who to chose!

How was the actual surgery and recovery VSG vs. RNY?
