What do you do to prevent or help constipation?
Not to get TMI, but I need some suggestions. I used to be pretty regular in this department, but have noticed in the last couple of months that I am only having a bowel movement about every third day. I know I need to be going more often. I take stool softener every day. Should I be doing Miralax with that as well? Someone mentioned Magnesium Citrate and I started that two weeks ago.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
All of the above? Some people take Miralax everyday. I can't because I can fluctuate between too loose and constipated. My rule of thumb of when to start taking things is-- if I don't go one day -OK. If I don't go by the end of the second day I need to take Miralax, stool softeners, suppository whatever. This week was bad for me. Even with taking stuff I was going a little but not totally cleared out....I even took a double dose of Miralax and it didn't fully work.... yesterday I ate spinach with sauteed in olive oil and a high fiber english muffin with butter figuring adding fat will help.... finally this AM success. I do put benefiber in my smoothie sometimes as well as take fiber pills. Fiber can work against you though if you are drinking lots of water.
It is a little trial and error to figure out what works for you.

every 3 days is not normal... no matter what any doc said.. just wait for the gas, headaches or even worse - future issues...

Don't believe that. Every day is still normal and after RNY normal output is a lot more than before. If I am going like a "normal" person, I am going to be using help to get things moving. We do not digest our food completely and that results in larger and more frequent BM's.
We can also get blocked up and that is very unpleasant.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I usually take 2 of the docusate sodium 250 capsules every day, miralax every few days if needed. Like someone else posted above, if I don't go one day thats ok but then I start to feel uncomfortable if things don't start moving the next day. I've taken magnesium citrate and it should probably be a LAST RESORT if you become impacted because it will most likely give you some hard core diarrhea.
