Real hunger or not?

I've been on solid food only since Tuesday of this week.  The first day was just fine, took food in carefully, the 2nd day I ate but by the afternoon I was feeling gassey and a bit queasy. I ate my lunch late but without any issue.  Fluid intake was fine.  By evening I was really queasy so I drank hot tea.  I dialed back my solid food and had soup (mostly broth) for dinner (late) and later a protein shake.  I went to bed

I woke up yesterday feeling fine...returned to solid food (still drinking protein shakes).  All was fine.  This morning I woke up to a gnawing stomach pain (hunger?)...maybe somewhat a little queasy.  I got my bathroom business out of the way and opted for a protein shake for breakfast as I didn't want to push the envelope.  Protein shake finished, gnawing hunger pain gone.

I wonder if this really was hunger pain.  I normally don't feel hunger but I could swear I have a few times...at least it felt like the same hunger I felt pre-RNY.

Even though my plan allowed solid food after a month, my body did not agree.  I mostly had protein shakes and soups until the third month.  Everyone heals at their own pace.  For me, hunger has not returned and I was eight years in October.

I was on a PPI for the first three months.  I think you are smart not to push the envelope.  Eventually your body will be ready for more solid food and you will be able to eat without the discomfort.

could be dehydration. It causes nausea. Are you getting 64+ ounces of fluid as well as the solids?

Are you taking zantac or some other acid meds? I hear not taking one can also cause nausea.

I'm 5 months out from surgery and I do get hungry, but I also think that some of the hunger pains can be caused by acid. Yours sounds like a bit of stomach acid, you should check with your doc about getting an acid reducer. Omeprazole works well for me.

Loved my protein shakes in those early months. My surgeon still wants me on 2 a day since I am now 13 months out. I'm not really sure why.

Good luck!
