When did you all start to feel better? I was the first and only patient to get up and walking after surgery. I walked 12 times within 24 hours after surgery, and also drank my water 2 days post op a little fast.. Two days later I have learned! I'm home now and can't quite get comfortable, gas pains still there but achy abdomen is the worse, oh and coughing.

Hang in there it will get better. If something really doesn't feel right call your doctor. Walk and sip walk and sip. Be kind to yourself . I promise it will get better. Keep us posted.

I am 3 weeks post op and it does get better. Walk a little whenever you can and sip your water slowly. For the gas pains I found that using Gas X works really well, but the achy stomach will take time to heal somedays it still hurts me but my doctor said that is to be expected. He said he rearranged all the plumbing inside and it will heal on its own, lol. For the coughing grab your pillow and hold it tight to your stomach, that's the only thing that helped me when I would cough or sneeze.

Hang in there, fellow rny sister, it will and does get better. I'm here if you need to talk.

You survived what you thought would kill you. Now straighten your crown and go forward like the Queen you are!

You are only 4 days out-- let your body HEAL--this was major surgery!! It took me upwards of 4 weeks to feels better and 6 to feel "normal".

Use your spirometer!

Even though it doesn't look like it you just had major surgery! Hang in there and walk as much as you can as that is the BEST way to get rid of the gas. The more you move the better you will feel. Each day will be a bit better.

Thanks everyone, one thing that terrifies me is eating. Well "phase two eating" which is liquids only. I'm terrified to hurt my pouch, or to over do it. Yesterday I was able to have .5 ounce SF ff watered pudding in the hospital but only half ounce for "lunch" and other half ounce about 8 hours later.

You can't hurt your pouch with liquids since your pouch is like a funnel so they just go right through, and as like as you follow directions and eat measured amounts you will be just fine. I know what you mean though as I felt the same way three years ago when I was new to this. Follow directions and you will be surprised how well you will do!

I was terrified of eating as well. Your body (pouch) will tell you when have had enough, and often is more than you get to the amount you are 'allowed", so just make sure to listen to your body.

My daughter had surgery Jan 13 and walk and water seems to be the only thing that works for the gas and pain.

YES! I'm 3 days post op and feeling the same. Did tons of walking and was fast tracked to leave the next day but I wasn't ready. Feeling gassy, achy and waiting to poo! There's no way I can get remotely close to the protein amount recommend yet, but I supposed staying hydrated is most important at this point. Good luck!
