I'm kind of freaking out!

I just took 23 shirts, a dress and a shrug out of my closet that are to big. I replaced them with THREE shirts that for now and one that will fit in about 20 pounds. They're stacked on my bed. I'm too afraid to bag them up and donate them.

I never said it would be easy. I said it would be worth it.

Bag them up and get rid of them. You do not want to ever be that size again do you? Take them to Goodwill and shop for things that fit and look good NOW while you are there.  Congratulations! It's a normal fear though, but don't keep them around. There is nothing in my closet that does not fit now as I have NO intention of regaining any weight.

I bagged some of mine up,  but the bag is still in the trunk of my car.

I took everything to a consignment shop and then used the money from the sale of my clothes to buy things in my newer sizes.  I spent very little actual money and always had nice things that fit while I was losing the weight.

A friendly idea:  take a few of the most worn-looking shirts and have a WLS ceremony of sorts.  For example, 1) cut them to shreds with a pair of scissors 2) build a bonfire and throw them in the fire to signify endings and/or new beginnings 3) cut squares of fabric for you to keep.  Might it help to donate them to a specific place?  For example, shelters for battered women need emergency clothing for women that left their home with nothing but the clothes are their backs.  Change is hard, even positive change sometimes.

Almost 7 months post op here.  The first time was VERY hard for me.  I was not used to this and it's nothing like when I was gaining.

When you go up sizes,  you want to keep the smaller sizes as sort of motivation to get back into them.  When I thought of it that way,  it's been easy and even rewarding each time I've done it!

Celebrate your NSV of being able to purge your closets!

I've taken about 5 big garbage bags to the amvets drop off bin on 3 different occasions and I love it! Embrace it and change your attitude and it will become a positive experience!
