Liver Reduction..

Ok, I'm having my RNY this coming Monday and I'm a little worried.
I know that an important part of the surgery is reducing the size of your liver so the surgeon can see and work and the place i'm having mine done put me on a liver reduction diet till I was to have surgery and to help me lose weight. I've lost about 40 pounds in total since i started it which is far past the goal amount they had for me and that is great, but the past month or so I kinda fell off it and I'm worried that my liver isnt going to be small enough to have the surgery.
They have me on a clear liquid only diet 2 days before the surgery so I dont know if thats to help make it smaller or what..
Anyway, I hope i dont get postponed :(
Congratulations, a loss of 40 pounds is pretty significant. The clear liquid is to help clear out your guts. Just get back on the diet prescribed until you are two days out. A couple of days off track should not have hurt much. Part of what the liver shrink diet is, is an opportunity for you to practice living with a pouch before you have the surgery. It is really very similar. Post surgery you will be on clear liquids for a while (depending on your tolerance), then full liquids for a while, then puree, then soft and sometime... for me it will not be until February, you get to a "full" diet. Full diet does not mean you can eat like you used to eat. It just means you get to add a few complex carbs and raw veggies and a couple of crunchy things into the mix. Right now, I cannot imagine being able to choke down anything crunchy or raw or even dry. Believe me, my pouch lets me know when it is getting full. I've only had a chewable multi come back up so far, but I ate it too fast. It normally takes me about an hour of nibbling to get the damned thing down every morning. I HATE the sweet-tart flavor. Practice eating the tiny bites (size of your pinky nail) and chew everything to paste before you swallow. Practice putting your utensil down between bites (hard one for me). Practice eating only at the table and avoid doing anything other than eating (other than having a conversation with someone)... don't read, don'****ch TV, look at internet or driving while eating. Too distracting. Think of the liver shrink as your dress rehearsal.
