Happy New Year everyone!! I am almost 3weeks post op. Physically I'm doing well but emotionally feeling flat and blah. I feel like this is going on for too long. I'm not having increased energy and force myself to go out for a walk daily. Has anyone else had a similar situation and when did you start to perk up? I really want to perk up!!

I had surgery on 8/6 and felt that way for a few months, it has been getting so much better the last few weeks.  So I can say, it does get better as far as the emotional aspect.

This is normal, but increasing your fluids a LOT will help a great deal.  Once I started increasing my fluids the energy came back.  Sleeping was my daily activity in the beginning.  Also, you will be dumping estrogen into your system because that hormone is stored in fat and as you lose the fat you will get a rush of estrogen.  Expect to have mood swings, feel teary, and also *****y.  This will pass.  Hang in there Sandy, you've got this.

Well the estrogen thing explains a lot!! Thank you! I just thought this would be a much easier recuperation period. I'll keep plugging along. I think it might be easier getting back to work on Monday and get a routine down.

Even though it may not seem like it because of tiny incisions, you had major surgery less than a month ago. Your body and your brain are both going through major changes. Make sure to drink plenty, move as much as you can,and be patient. You will soon be glad you went through all this!

Drink the fluids, you would be surprised it will make a difference. Make sure you are getting your protein in too.

I feel that way in the winter, too. I hate winter.

After my WLS it took me months to get energy back. You will feel much better by the spring.
