Does restriction not start until after the liquid stage?
Hi! It seems most people don't have any hunger early on. I think I do. I am working hard at reading up on head hunger versus real and, from what I can tell, it is real hunger. I can ignore it. But, I definitely have that empty stomach feeling. I was REALLY looking forward to not feeling hungry and having that restriction I keep reading about. Is this because the liquids go straight through? Will I not feel the hunger or at least more restriction when I graduate to solids?
You are correct that liquids go straight through. There is no valve at the bottom of your pouch like there was on your stomach so it is essentially like a funnel. That's why it's important when you eat to not drink for awhile so you can register that you are satisfied. Once drinking begins food begins to pass through.

I had this same fear during the liquid stage.
It was resolved by solids --- and I still focus on dense protein for the best results.
I have also worked very hard on my food addiction, too. I deal a lot with "head hunger"
Don't panic.

Just read a medical article on this. 10 min to empty a pouch with just fluid. Takes 30-120 min with dense protein. Things may be OK for you when you get on solid protein (not just eggs, yogurt, and fish)

If you are a rule-follower and stick to two-to-four ounces of food, even dense food, you may not experience restriction for some time. Restriction happens when I don't chew well enough, don't wait in between bites, or eat too much. However, there are "no restriction days" and "restriction days" that seem to have no explanation whatsoever. I continue to consider the word "hunger" a mute point in this WLS-lifestyle. As directed by the WLS team, I eat every three waking hours, choosing protein first-vegetable second with liquids in between. Quality food choices is viewed similar to putting premium high-grade fuel in a car you take pride in and want to keep running efficiently. Nothing more. I am far from perfect...intense exercise is lax; my car might look and run better if I did. Hope you will consider to make the word "hunger" a mute point, too.
