Lunch meat issues?

I don't know if it's psychological, but I can't eat lunch meat anymore. I used to eat it all the time when I first moved to solids,  but when I put it in my mouth now and start to chew I gag.

It's actually really inconvenient, since I used to love the P3 snacks and meat and cheese roll ups are convenient.

Anyone else have this problem? I gag when I try,  and it makes my pouch feel icky.

Yes, make sure it's not loaded with chemicals and preservatives.  Otherwise, great source of protein.

sodium and nitrates.  Get some turkey tenderloins (breasts) and cook them up. It's real turkey, not 'turkey' roll.  I also can eat lunch meat turkey from the Amish market because they just bake a turkey and take the breast off and slice it.

I can only do boars head ham or chicken and trader joes black forest ham. Sausages of any kind are worse. The thought of eating even a chicken sausage makes me want to vomit.

I can do TJs chicken sausage without much problem.  Maybe I'll try some boarshead. It would be convenient to eat meat and cheese rolls for lunch again.

Some of them makes me barf.  Even now. That's what I do instead:

  • bake my own pork loin 4-7 lbs then use that as my lunch meat..(thinly sliced or in cubes)
  • same with turkey breast
  • have a few cold cuts brands - types that I know I can eat - but only if it is freshly cut - like canadian bacon deli cut fresh from publix, whole mini forest ham from WF..

I noticed that most of the cold cuts in packages are covered in some liquid (to preserve freshness) that makes me barf. The whole meat products - in most grocery deli section - they are OK for me.  I always ask for a slice before they cut my 0.5-1 lbs...  If it is even little bit slimy - it is no go...

It is psychological, but it is not that good for us anyway.

A lot of people develop aversions to things after surgery. I don't know why, but  I'm not sure if why really matters. The best thing to do is find alternatives.

I picked up a couple of hams on sale before christmas. I cook it and freeze individual portions. The texture is different than deli meat, so something like that might work for you.
