Hi OH Friends!

Like Anny, I have been away for a while.  Mostly because I was just in Scotland for 8 days!  What an epic trip.  Despite it being cold and dark (no joke, sunrise is 8:45 am and sunset is 3:45 pm!), I was able to be moderately active including some great hikes, one completely uphill to Arthur's Seat for great views of Edinburgh.  Protein was available in abundance there - tons and tons of seafood!  I mean, sure sometimes it was in the form of fish and chips lol.  But although I am up 3 lbs today, I am hopeful that part of that is the aftermath of flying all day yesterday and having salty food.  I was up so damn early today that I was able to unpack, do all of my laundry, grocery shop, and food prep - all before 9 am!

No resolutions for me this year.  I think of maintenance after WLS as a daily struggle to make the right choices and do things like food prep and plan my meals and stay active.  I am telling you, at two years and 3 weeks out from RNY, it's a daily struggle.  Try to work your plans as best as you can in these early months.

B: Tuna fish made with onion and mayo, 4 pita chips

L: Tuna fish made with onion and mayo, cucumber salad made with onion, light sour cream, mayo, red wine vinegar, granulated garlic

S: Hard boiled egg

D: Salmon from giant - it comes with quinoa and rice and veggies but I will likely eat more salmon than anything else

I am doing a barre class followed by Plyofit class today - after a week of only walking, it's time to hit the gym (and pray it's not packed with resolutions people ha ha!).

Totals are 1,400 calories, 81 g protein, 80 carbs.

I posted some holiday pics below.  My favorite is the one of me in Glen Coe (in the Highlands) where the rain and wind was so intense that my umbrella turned completely inside out during the pic!!!!

Have a great start to the new year, all!

Oooh, your vacation looks awesome, I am so jealous!  Scotland would be a dream for me.  My maiden name is Kerr, and I've always had a fascination with the everything from Great Britain and Ireland.

Good morning, beautiful people and Happy New Year!!  I am SO glad the holidays are over.  It's like a switch flipped again in my brain and I have absolutely no interest in the carbby, crappy food.  I'm actually craving protein.  I hope that means that I will be able to shed the December weight gain.  I made it to the gym all three days of the long holiday weekend and took my first ever yoga class, so 2016 was off to a good start.  No gym for me tonight . . . I have to spend time at the AT&T store.  We bought new cellphones last night and somehow managed to lock myself out of my brand new phone while trying to transfer data from the old phone to the new phone.  If work isn't too crazy and I can sneak away, I'll try to run tonight . . . If not I'll consider it a rest day and not stress.  Anny and everyone else, I totally get you about not ending up in the overweight category at the end of weight loss.  I have this discussion ALL THE TIME with my surgeon.  I'm really short (5' on a really good day) so to be in a normal BMI, I have to be pretty small (around 123).  Well, around 125 is where I started having trouble with my blood work, so my surgeon would, for health reasons, prefer me to be around 135.  I told him that makes me very unhappy because I didn't go through surgery to still be overweight.  We have the conversation every appointment.  He tells me not to focus on BMI.  I tell him its hard not to when the first thing that happens when I walk in his office is they calculate BMI.  He asks me what size clothes I wear now in comparison to what I wore before.  When I tell him i wear a 4, he asks me "what's wrong with that?"  My response is "nothing, but I'm still not at a normal weight."  He tells me I'm better than 80% of the population and that I should be happy.  My response, "I am happy, but would like to be at a 'normal' weight.  This happens every appointment and at this point is pretty comical.  He knows I won't give up and he won't give up trying to convince me I'm in a good place.  I guess all we can do is keep striving for the ultimate goal, but don't beat ourselves up if we fall a bit short.

What is my resolution???  In the past, it was always begin a diet that I would actually stick to.  I can recall rationalizing every New Year's Day that it was ok to eat the junk and that I could start "tomorrow."  No more.  My resolution this year is to be the best person I can be and forgive myself when I fall short.  You cannot be perfect, and that's ok.  I also want to improve my fitness and overall health by continuing to run and exercise.  I have my first 1/2 marathon of 2016 (3rd overall) planned for April and would like to lower my finish time, even if by 1 minute.

My food plan today has no totals since I can't log into my fitness pal until I get my phone fixed.  It looks pretty protein forward, so I think it should be ok.

B: ground turkey, spinach and cheese

L: either chili or a chicken salad from Panera (which is across the street from the AT&T store)

D: Trader Joe's Turley Meatloaf, broccoli

S: Light and fit and PB2; somersaults

Oh, question for you all.  I found a new Light and Fit flavor . . . cherry cheesecake.  It sounds good, but it's whipped.  the calories are the same, but I'm concerned that I will be able to inhale it and that it won't keep me satiated.  Has anyone tried the new whips (they also had toasted coconut vanilla).  I bought a few and will give it a go, but I may do it on a day where i'm low on Protein and need a boost.  Let me know, peeps!

are you sure the stats are the same? The only ones I could find are 100 cals instead of 80, and for me that is alot(given I try to hit 600-650 a day)

the stats aren't exactly the same.  The calories are still 80, but the protein is only 9g a cup, rather than 12.  That still fits in my plan (1g of protein for every 10 calories).  That's why I think i'll save it for when I'm a bit low in calories.

thanks! I will check again because I always skip over them because of my past look at them.

I'm actually eating the strawberry shortcake mousse right now.  I didn't know they were only 9g of protein  until I was logging this morning.  It's delicious,  but I won't be buying them again.  A little too sweet for my taste.  Plus it's 4oz instead of 5.3 for the regular light and fit greek.

Thanks for the review.  I really like the light and fit, and I usually add a bit of Peanut butter or PB2 to make it a more substantial snack before I hit the gym.  I don't think I'll be able to add to the whip since it would defeat the whipped texture.  I'll try it tonight if i'm short on calories and/or protein.
