Back on Iron-Yearly check up
So I had my annual check up for my surgiversary. It was a mixed bag. The positive points-I am skinnier now than I was at this time last year and the surgeon is pleased. I had an opportunity to discuss my fear of bounce-back and they stated: 1) it doesnt have to happen and 2) it may be a result of taking in too many calories outside of meals. Limit snacking to one snack of 120 calories per day. What the liquid calories. The surgeon thinks I may be able to squeak by on ONE metformin pill per day, since my A1C was 5.4 or 5.8, especially since I have had some low blood sugar incidents.
The bad news is my iron is pretty low. Pre-op, I would run anemic. Then in the first two years post op, I didnt need iron. But now, here I am back to taking iron and metformin again.
I am a bit unsettled because deficiencies/imbalances which were temporarily resolved in the first two years are slowly starting to creep back. It creates an insidious feeling in my psyche.
I am thankful that Vitalady has carbony iron. Before, I had really good luck with it. I am glad I got a vitamix too so I can start sneaking spinach into my protein shakes.

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
Especially since you were anemic pre-op, I'm not sure I understand why they thought you didn't need iron the last two years. There are very, very few RNYers who don't need extra iron, and it's a pretty sure bet they eventually will. If you had been on some all along, you wouldn't be so low now.
I wouldn't feel down about it. We all will be making vitamin adjustments for the rest of our lives. It's still worth it.

Thank you. This makes me feel a lot better. I was worried that things might being revert back to where they were before...but you comment that most need some extra iron reassures me.
Thank you for answering this.
