Oh I absolutely realize how lucky I am! I'm 30 years old, but when she comes out to visit, she still takes me shopping just to buy me things. I fought it for a few years right after college but eventually realized it makes her happy, and I had no real reason to complain about new clothes, lol. She also "adopted" a few of my friends in college who couldn't go home for holidays due to family issues. She really is an amazing woman.

You cray cray.  Put her out of her misery and give the poor woman a full menu.

Monday - Turkey breast with your favorite veggie (leftovers for lunch rest of week)

Tues - Roast beef, with your husband's fav veggie(alternate with turkey for lunch for rest of week

Wed: Pork chops, with your favorite veggie

Thurs: Broiled flounder with shrimp stuffing, extra shrimp for lunch shrimp ****tail on Friday

Friday: Reservations

Breakfast - list your favorite Triple Zero Yogurt, etc.

Let her feel like a good mama and let her get what will make you most comfortable.

Dessert ideas: Jello Stained Glass - red and green is my current favorite. Make SF jello, let it cool in shallow pan, cut into irregular pieces (make each color jello separately), then mix with SF CoolWhip.

                      SF Popcicles,

Cooking is a creative outlet for lots of people (ie there are SEVERAL cooking networks, not just shows), let your mama go crazy while you and hubby are out on walks, or enjoying other physical activity.  Cooking seems like a creative outlet for her and doesn't want to make a mistake.  You get the idea, just make sure that she knows you will not be in the kitchen do the cooking, if you don't want to.

We all have to have a HUGE sense of humor when visiting, with or without WLS, you get my idea.

Broiled flounder with shrimp stuffing sounds wonderful.  How do you make the shrimp stuffing?  Those are some great ideas Sharon.

Thanks - I had two unpleasant Holidays with my mother -  I visit later in January.

I didn't have much vacation time or cash and I resented blowing it all and it being so difficult.  The first year was bad.  I said I would give it a second try - maybe it was me or the phases of the moon.  The second year was WORSE.  I refuse to have anymore crappy holidays.

I just tell people to make whatever they would otherwise prepare, and not to do anything special for me. People make so much stuff, there is always something that's good for me. Then it's my choice to avoid the crappy things.

No offense Grim but you're a guy, you wouldn't understand. That does not mean, however, that your idea isn't the best.  It's just not a solution that many of our families would be able to accept.

Aww this thread actually made me both laugh and cry.  If my mother were still alive, she would be both thrilled for me and also doing the EXACT same thing.  "Not feeding me" would never have been an option for her.

I think all your suggestions above are wonderful.  Giving her access to MFP is pretty genius, but I do think helping her create some menus or giving her a specific list may be most helpful for her.

Enjoy the holidays and your visit home!  Yes, its a journey for many of us to learn to show our love for others, and for ourselves, without food but we will get there.  I'm actually looking forward to celebrating with music, laughter and such.

And though this goes without saying:  enjoy EVERY MINUTE you have with your mother and your family.  It's precious time!

Sounds exactly like my mom. My parents are meat and potato folks, and even though I said numerous times that I would eat most of what they made, my mom wasn't satisfied.

So, we went grocery shopping together. Now when I go home, she always has some hummus, hard boiled eggs, and cheese for me. Even though she now knows I mostly eat what they eat, it makes her feel better to have some food available for me.
