Taking previous meds

Just had my surgery Wednesday and surprisingly I am feeling quite good.  I walked around a lot in the hospital and have continued to do so at home.  Once the majority of the gas passed, I feel mostly normal (they pumped me REALLY full for the laproscopic procedure) and it is still working it's way out.  I am taking children's Tylenol in liquid form for a bit of pain but have to take all my previous prescription meds, only in crushed form--yuck!

I have been crushing them and putting them in the Tylenol...the super sweetness of Tylenol offsets the bitterness of the pills somewhat.  However I am still having the worst time with this.  Started dry heaving yesterday till I was brining up blood.  I called the doc and was advised that it is nothing to worry about provided it doesn't happen constantly.  They also told me that due to swelling in my esophagus and new pouch, I have to crush my pills for one month--one month--OMG, don't know how I will manage this.  I got a syringe now so my next attempt will be to mix them with Tylenol and try to shot it right at the back of my mouth, past the taste buds.

Does anyone have the same issue and suggestions for how to deal with it?  Gagging twice a day on these for the next month is scary.

The syringe idea sounds good to me.

I crushed pills and opened capsules and put them in a couple of tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce for the first month.

Wasn't that the WORST thing ever! I had to crush my pills for 5 weeks, by the end I was just mixing it into water and chasing it with crystal light.

I never had to crush or chew any pills.  First post op day my surgeon told me it was ok to swallow them as long as they felt ok going down.

I wouldn't advise you to go against your dr.'s orders,  but FYI I came out of it all just fine.

I used to mix my crushed pills into a little sugar free pudding.

Thanks to all of you for your excellent suggestions!  I called the nurse and she did indicate that I could use a small amount of applesauce or other similar-textured allowable foods to take the pills.

I have tried the applesauce and it did work okay, better with a bit of artificial sweetener or cinnamon added to it to mask the taste--pills are so bitter.  I'm also straining them through fine mesh teabag ball once crushed as they have chunks of coating with do not crush well and are obviously unnecessary once crushed.

The pudding would also be good I think, must pick some up and in the meantime maybe try a bit of jello.  Thanks so all of you--cheers!
