good morning, i had my bypass done on tuesday and am home and doing quite well. but i have not had a bowel movement since before my surgery. obviously, i have been taking in so little that there would not be much...and i do not have any pain or any other symptoms that would make me worry. i just thought i'd ask about others' experiences: my surgeon told me i would be constipated and to just take some prune juice (i started that this morning, but diluted so that i didn't get too much sugar at once). anyone willing to speak on this kind of personal subject?   thank you!

I had surgery onf a Tuesday and had a BM by Thursday. I've been lucky, no constipation or diarhrhea, nor do I need to take anything to keep me regular.

Try some Miralax or benefiber if you haven't gone within a week.

I did not have a bm for 6 days after surgery  I have been having issues with constipation,  off and on.  I'd say stay with the prune juice and ask your surgeon how soon you can stay on something like miralax.  It's better to be proactive.

My surgery was Tuesday as well. I did have a very small BM yesterday, but nothing since. I was told by the nursing staff and resident MD that it takes a while for our insides to wake back up after such a surgery. The RN told me that our bowels kind of shut down automatically when there is a trauma to them. Our surgery is a trauma.

Are you passing gas? If so don't worry to much about it yet. If you are passing gas things are moving along the way they should. Right now we have so little in our bowels that there isn't enough to get rid of.

Ai had by surgery on Tuesday also...I started having diarrhea today.  I did not take anything, just started.  Maybe just give it another day?  I'm still sore and feeling weak.  I keep taking nausea pills to avoid getting sick.  Gatorade is already not my friend.  Wishing you all the best!!!
