It's a beautiful day!

Good morning OH friends! I am 4 days post op and feeling great. I am still a little sore but for the most part I am really surprised that I feel so good. I weighed myself when I got home Thursday just to see how much extra weight from the fluids I had. It was about 5 lbs. As of this morning I have lost that and an extra 2lbs to put me at 227.4. I have not seen this # in about 7 years. I realized that this fast weight loss  is a little scary for me. Did any of you feel this way as well?

I have been working hard to get all my fluids in. I have been focusing more on fluids than my protein right now. Although I am working 1-2 protein drinks in, I want to make sure I do not get dehydrated. Should I be trying harder to meet my protein requirements right now or do what I can and just make sure I get all my fluids in?

I am open to any suggestions you guys have! All in all I think I am having a great recovery!

Nobody rolls off the operating table and is ready to get all their protein, vitamins, exercise and fluids in immediately.  Concentrate on fluids and moving around.  Do not let yourself get dehydrated or get a blood clot.

Your body will not get depleted of protein for a long time.  You have plenty of time to get that right.

Congratulations on your surgery and great recovery.

Thanks White Dove. That is what I am thinking. I am pushing water like crazy. Dehydration scares the living crap out of me. I am getting some exercise in. Yesterday I walked around my property, I would estimate it was about a 1/2 mile stroll.

After a week post op I was able to do both. But if you need I chose - hydration first... Then proteins... Always. Even long term... Warm drinks may help with the pouch ..not hot, but warm.. Also would help with suddenly feeling cold...

A hot showers a few times a day in first few weeks post op really helped me to feel good.  Warm and clean. Very low calories can cause ketosis , and that may cause BO.. Plus all the "hospital smell" - it felt like was oozing from my skin...

I relied heavily on sugar-free popsicles to get my fluids in early on.  I struggled with both fluids and protein requirements.  Hang in there.

I'm glad that things are going well. I focused on water first, then protein. I didn't consistently hit my protein goals till 3 weeks out. I added vitamins after I was finished with all the special post op antibiotics etc.

How wonderful! Fluids are the most important... dehydration is one of 2 major reasons for readmittance to the hospital within the first 30 days post-op. Agree with poster above protein goals will come eventually... aim for a bit better each day and even then... you'll have a stellar day then a "grouchy pouch" day. You'll get there.

Enjoy the scale drops and those new #'s. The emotional rollercoaster of WLS is a wild ride (hardest part IMHO) If you have a local support group I'd be a regular... it really helps to find a tribe or at least a couple of fellow WLS close by to share those OMG me too! moments no one else gets but another WLSer... OH is great too of course but nice to have some local pals.

Best wishes!! I am always excited for new WLSers starting this amazing journey!

It sounds like you are doing wonderful. I can't rwally add anything to what others said. Push the fluids, and don't sit for too long without getting up and walking for a bit.
