I had RNY on 11/11/15 I have only lost 17lbs. I walk for 30-60 minutes everyday. I get my 64oz fluids daily. I eat 2-3oz of protein 3-5 times a day plus the 2 protein shakes. My calorie's add up to 600-700 per day. I am not certain what I am doing wrong here. The only thing I can come up with is that I am older (44) and am going to loose more slowly, any suggestions?

I don't think that is all that slowly.  I went back and looked at my numbers.  I did lose 23lbs in the first month, but honestly, every month since then I have lost exactly 13lbs. It's going to really depend on how much you weighed when you had surgery and how much you need to lose.  what was your start weight and how much do you have to lose?  If you had a large amount of weightloss before surgery, your lost after may be slower.  There are so many variables that go into it.  Don't panic!  if you have serious questions, you should talk to your doctor.  Just stick with it and the weight will come off, there is no way to maintain your weight at 700 calories a day.

Btw, I'm 42, which is really close to your age.  I weighed about 270 at time of surgery and now weigh 200lbs 4.5 months out.

Did you lose a bunch pre-op? Sometimes that causes people to lose slower. How much do you need to lose? If you are a lightweight, you may lose slower. Did you check the OH Weight Loss Planner? It was very accurate for me. I was 42 when I had my RNY.

It sounds like you are doing a great job. It is hard not to compare your journey to everyone else's, but you really shouldn't. Hang in there!!

I lost 16 lbs in my first 5 weeks. How much did you have to lose to start with? Someone who starts with a BMI of 55 will lose much faster than someone with a BMI of 35. Did you lose a lot pre-op? I've been a rather slow loser since surgery. I'm still at the point where more than half of what I've lost total was lost pre-op, but I'm not complaining as long as it's still going the right direction!

Like everyone has asked, how much do you have to lose?  Did you lose a lot pre-op? I lost nothing pre-op so I lost rather quickly in the beginning. My calories were only around 400-500 for the first couple of months though.

I only lost 16 lbs my first month, which put me in the 20th percentile, according to this resident who seemed clueless to the fact that I was already upset about not losing "enough".  But then, I lost 60 lbs prior to surgery, so of course I wouldn't see those huge drops that some have the first month.  He should have known that....or at minimum known that everyone's different.

At my six-month appt, the surgeon told me I'd caught up with everyone else - I was right smack in the middle of the pack.  So don't worry - your body's going to lose at whatever rate it's going to lose, so as long as you follow your plan, you'll do fine.

I agree. I think you are losing just fine!

You know what you might try? Calculate your % excess body weight lost. Here's more info about what that is and how to calculate. This number gets you OUT of the habit of following trends based on other people and more into following the trend of your own body. I hope it's helpful!

In 5 weeks I had lost 17lbs too, I just went back and looked at my chart. I lost more the second and third month than I did the first. Everyone is different, it will happen.

I'm about 6 month out I've lost a little over 120lbs. since the start of my pre-surgery diet, I've noticed in the past month my weight loss has slowed down a bit. Trying to watch what I eat and am finally getting back into the gym. :)
