What happens if you don't lose enough weight before surgery?

I wasn't allowed to meet my surgeon until I lost 40lbs, which took me almost a year to do.

Try cutting carbs or a plan like Medifast (a cheaper alternative to Optifast). While many people find success with Weigh****chers, it was very difficult for me as I was still eating many of my favorite foods (ie., simple carbs), which triggered me to eat more. I do better with a more restrictive eating plan, which is why a postop RNY diet works for me when I follow it: dense protein, veggies, dairy, and fat.

They may or may not. It depends.

But as others said - exercise really only makes you feel better, and does not contribute very much to weight loss.

3 weeks ago I had a back surgery. The only exercise I can do is walking. Very slow walking.

I lost 10 lbs since then. Because I eat less and I really eat food that helps healing... Proteins and veggies.  And I am at my doc goal weight... 7 years post op.

The 70 hrs work weeks will happen after WLS... Make sure you are ready for changes and you are really commited to lifestyle changes.

At the same time - if we could lose weight without WLS - most of us would not need it... Hang in there... Hopefully they will see you made an afford and approve you.  But after that - you better have the commitment...

My surgeon had my pre-op weight loss goal at 15lbs. I had lost 13 at my final preoperative appointment,  but lost another 12 in the 7 days prior to surgery.

Every surgeon is different, bit of your showing efftort and have luau a good portion of it,  you have a better chance.

Nate,

I had RNY almost a year ago. I was fortunate that my surgeon didn't require me to loose weight. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Track your food, drink, and movement on an app or online and bring that data with you to your appts ask your nutritionist where you can make adjustments if you are not losing... which will demonstrate effort and commitment.

or...

I echo the medifast (retail sale) or asking for optifast (through Dr/medical weight management programs)... liquid diets will certainly drop the pounds you need without much effort... they are not sustainable long term of course but they will get the scale #'s down pre-op.
