Gallbladder Question
I am having my gall bladder out on the 23rd too. About a month ago I was sitting at work at had severe pain on my side. It kept getting worse, so I called my surgeon. They had me go for a liver test and ultrasound of my gall bladder all was okay. Then had a HIDA scan about a week later. Showed my gall bladder only functioning at 12%. Went to the surgeon last week and we got the surgery scheduled over Xmas while I am off for 2 weeks, so I won't miss much time off. I am taking 2 weeks. How long did they say you had to be off? I go for my pre op testing tomorrow. Good luck. I know now I had been having some symptoms fir a while, but we're not severe.
i did take urdersdol for 6 months after RNY surgery, which was 21 months ago.
I know this is an old post but I wanted to let others know...Bill said it perfectly....
We are ALL different. I ha my Gallbladder for 2 years after my RNY surgery. I NEVER had any "attacks" or pain...My only symptoms was slight nausea at first that increased over time to nausea after ever meal and (pardon my TMI) very stinky attacks of first Constipation and then, well lets just say, completely emptying out. But never any Gallbladder attack pains or symptoms.
I went to my Doctor who ordered an Ultrasound and some other test that eludes me at the moment. The Technician kept saying over and over "Are you SURE you don't have pain, NEVER? does it hurt when I push here (No)
Long story short, my gallbladder was actually necrotic (dying) so I did NOT have the symptoms you here about. I was scheduled for emergency GB removal and some surgery where they check all your tubes to make sure you have no stones, (cholecystectomy I think).
My surgeon said another month and the rotting gallbladder would have possibly done fatal damage....After the surgery is when I had autoimmune liver failer, seizures and hepatic encephalitis...I honestly think that rotting gallbladder started my liver problems.
I cannot say yeah or nay on your personal GB. I agree with others that the gallbladder does more than doctors tell us. I wish I was given that gallstone dissolving pill after my RNY but I wasn't. Some people do great without their gallbladder. But never take it (symptoms) for granted. Push your doc if you must, see a GI specialist.
Warmly,
Jackie
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to give an update. On the 22nd, we ran into an insurance SNAFU, so I had to delay the surgery. It is now scheduled for April 1st, after my new insurance kicks in.

I know this was an older post but hopefully you or someone else can answer a question. I do not have a surgery date yet but when i met with my surgeon he said my liver enzymes were high and my liver was fatty. He had told me we would biopsy it at the time of my surgery. Does this sound normal? Any idea why i was not refered somewhere to have it checked out?
Thanks
