Welcome claralynn :

dont know if you remember at your nutritional class you were told that post your RNY that you will have to take supplements probably the rest of your life.

Now not all people are the same but calcium , iron and a multi vitamin will have to be taken.

at your pre-op it's a great question to as your nurse pract.

As she would be well informed of your needs pre and post -op

im scheduled for surgery in January and am well aware that a form of calcium iron and multivit will be an almost for sure.

Im concerned you have second thoughts as for me the surgery is not just weight but for my health.

Also im sure you are aware that not all people are the same. So your need may differ from others.

This is a great  thing for you and your health and the vitamin issue is really small in the scheme of things.

I wish you well and all the success in the world.

When you see your results you will agree the you have made the right choice

good luck and get ready for the journey of your life.

I said my surgery is in January and I just can't wait.

Good luck girl !!!!!!!

If you don't get your calcium, magnesium and Boron, zinc and other essential elements... you will lose calcium in your bones and teeth. Mom and I both had surgery over 20 years ago, a hybrid surgery, an Open one..If you take a sublingual B complex that includes B-12 you will not require shots. Still may need to take an Iron prep... that depends on YOUr body response.

Just do not get lax with follow up labs, and keep a copy of every instruction and maintainence instruction you are given..

Maintain an ongoing list of what you take so you can tweak it as your body changes and labs indicate.

muscle cramps are  one of the first danger signs. Know what can cause them an have things to help on hand and you can limit your pain.

After my surgery I had..( and Mom did not have, so this is a very individualized response) a long term drop in my iron levels because my body does not have enough of the factors that enable IRON to be absorbed, unless I eat liver. after a diet of 2 ounces twice a day for 6 weeks I found a natural source...it is bufalo or calf liver extract and is from pasture raised beef/buffalo.and comes in a capsule. There is aprescription form of Iron that has the intrinsic factor, it is called foltrin, and now is in generic. There are one or two others, but they are too large for me to swallow.(one is by walgreens)
