Follow-up from post below -- Mirena question for the ladies

So I got my first Mirena IUD last Friday, and it hurt like a ***** I was miserable and crampy and did nothing but sleep all weekend. How long did the cramping last for you? It's definitely better than it was Friday and Saturday, but I still double over in pain a couple times a day, and I'm really hoping that goes away! The goal of ending my usual monthly cramping was a big part of why I finally agreed to an IUD.
Also, did anyone notice the onslaught of really vivid bizarre and unsettling dreams with Mirena, or enhanced dream recall? I'm on an SSRI that suppresses REM sleep, so I usually remember maybe one dream per week, but lately I've been waking up multiple times a night from really bad dreams. Maybe I just need to stop binge watching Forensic Files before bed.
I'm sorry you are having problems whereas I didn't but then I was in my 40's with two vaginal births behind me when I got the IUD. The closest I had to a dream was absorbing the thought of no more periods was a "in your dreams" idea. It was a mistake not to request seeing the tiny size of the IUD before insertion; I figured an internal device that had five years worth of hormone had to have been gigantic, even wondering if it changed my gait. Dumb, dumb. No more monthly cramps will change your life if the Mirena eventually stopped hurting and starts helping. Good Luck.
I didn't have any cramping or weird dreams, but I had a Mirena for about a year and I just didn't feel like myself the entire time.
I know they claim that it doesn't release much hormone, but I felt bloated, felt like I was in a "fog" all the time, and gained a majority of my excess weight during that time.
There seems to be a small subset of people that have these types of issues with Mirena, but it is not the norm. Hopefully you will adjust and do well long term.
