Cold prevention medicine?
I'm getting a cold. I took Zicam (this kind: http://www.zicam.com/our-products/cold-shortening/rapid-melt s-citrus.php) to try to shorten the length or prevent it altogether - I used to take it regularly before my RNY and it was fine.
This was the first time I took it since having my RNY on 10/22 and it made me so nauseous I almost threw up and felt so disgusting. Has anyone else had this reaction?
What do people recommend to take when they have a cold or are trying to prevent a cold? Is there anything I should avoid? Help!! Thanks!

I'm one of those that could never take the zinc lozenges. Taste like ass to me. I read once that was the way it was with some people.
But I have been able to use the Zicam Swabs. You might try those. These are the ones I mean
ETA: I should clarify. I didn't read that they actually taste like ass to some people. Just that some couldn't use them because the taste was so replusive to them.
I am taking you know to avoid ibuprofen of any form? Pills, liquids, intraveneously...it's the drug itself not the form in which you ingest it. Just checking.
Be a little careful with Nyquil if it still has alcohol in there. I've not taken meds without alcohol in them since surgery. It might make you more drowsy.
Besides avoiding the ibuprofen remember that time release meds (that you swallow) will not last as long in your system. Or they don't for me. And meds kick in a bit faster for me.
So I usually ready an hour or two before it's time to take another dose. If I am miserable I take them anyway. If I can wait I do.
But you should be find taking most OTC items.

Zicam is homeopathic. By definition, it is not actually medicine.
