Living with RNY 7 years out. Remembering the early days.
This month is my 7th anniversary of Rny. Been a good year. I came back here in March. I understand in a way I never have that it's a lifelong yet a one day a time thing.
It was interesting to be reminded of that immediate post op period. My experience was different than hunger. At 3 weeks post op I was a sick mess. Weepy. Trying to get anything down. I had an umbilical hernia repair as well. It took 2 people to get me up. A really clear moment in that hell was when I friend of mine came over. She was about 9 years out from RnY. She brought me little plastic condiment cups. About 2 oz. She took the yogurt cup out of my hands. The yogurt I was looking at and thinking it's so much..I just can't do this.
She came out with the condiment cup. She said ..this is a serving. Eat this. She saved me really. Everyone's experience is different but I was sick as a dog recovering from a surgery with pretty bad renal failure. I was going to die a much younger woman if it didn't work. It took me about 6 months to have the new way of eating down. I still change things around that won't work.
I was on here every day. There were some people who annoyed the hell out of me. I learned. I shared. This place saved my life.
So now I'm back. I'm not leaving. It's a lifetime but you know what? My life is pretty damn good.
For the new ones. This lasts a lifetime but that first year is a magic time. You get to have it once. I wish you only the best.
Deb
Congratulations Deb, and I'm glad you are back. I love when you wrote that you still change things around that won't work. This surgery is not a set-it-and-forget-it kind of deal.

You know Deb what it's like to post after Grim - I might as well just say Ditto what he said.
I'm glad you are back and here to stay - we are all better off for it :)
Congrats on the first 7 years and here's to many many more

Great post Deb.
I used (and still do!) 2 and 3 oz condiment cups with lids.
Glad you're back. You're an asset to the group.
