Sleep Apnea
So for those that have/had it-- help me understand. My hubby was just diagnosed. I've long suspected he had this and he finally was diagnosed. He snores, and suffers from clusters headaches, which I tend to think is connected to the sleep apnea. Am I accurate in thinking that his ho-hum, daytime attitude stems from not being well rested? I really look forward to him starting a C-Pap to see if I see a difference in him/his personality in the daytime. For those who have/had it-- did you notice a difference in your energy after being treated for it, or after it resolved post-op?
He is at least 100# overweight. Of course I'd LOVE to jump all over this as an opportunity to encourage him to lose weight-- but he knows that. Best I can do is support him and hope he's consistent at it.

I do have sleep apnea, a severe case. I was in denial for the longest time. Once I recieved my machine it took me a while to be "friends" with it, but when it did happen I could totally tell the difference in my moods. I use to wake up just as tired if not more tired from a nights sleep. I still snore with my machine on and believe that will not go away. I have lost 120 pounds since my WLS and still use it. If i have taken a nap during the day and didn't have it on, I was miserable when I woke up.
Just be there to support him and encourage him. Maybe with more rest at night he will have energy to loose some extra weight.
I had severe sleep apnea. It was not uncommon for me to leave work shortly after lunch because I couldn't function without falling asleep at my desk. When I started CPAP therapy it was like night and day.
It could be a factor in your husband's disposition; however, it also might not. Either way, if he has sleep apnea then it should be treated. Good luck!
Thankfully I had a mild case which is now gone but when I had the machine I definitely noticed a difference. I used to sleep 10 hours some nights and be falling asleep in the middle of the day. Now I can sleep 5 hours and be find the whole day and not be tired. My wife has bad sleep apnea but she thinks the cpap is a "keep my husband from yelling at me in the middle of the night machine" instead of what it really is, a potential life saving device
CPAP or Bi-CPAP... if you snore and or holding your breath while sleeping you are not getting rest. Your heart will enlarge, lack of oxygen to your brain, and other stuff.... serious stuff. I use Bi-CPAP for a long time, I thought WLS would allow me to stop but people large and small have sleep apnea. Have a better rested sleep. Best wishes

I had mild-moderate apnea that resolved after I lost about 100 lbs, but when my husband finally got PAP'ed, he said he didn't realize how bad he felt all the time until he learned how much better he could feel. He said it was like night and day, which I've also heard from hundreds of patients over the years. For those with significant apnea who get over the CPAP acclimation hurdle, it's a total game-changer.
I supervise a hospital sleep lab, and a couple years ago for Sleep Tech Appreciation Week I got my staff bumper stickers that said, "Sleep Techs: Saving the world, one CPAP at a time." I don't think that's the least bit exaggerated!
I was dx'd and immediately treated for Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea in 2007. It took me and my DME 2 nights to get a mask that fit me so I could get a good nights sleep. I took right to it. And have never missed a night wearing it. My BiPap became/is my best friend. My headaches stopped occuring and I no longer fell asleep within a few minutes after sitting down.
I saw my sleep doc this past August for my yearly checkup. When I told her I would be having WLS she said to bring my machine in when I have lost 20 lbs so she could change it from a straight BiPap to an auto BiPap. Now as I drop weight my machine self-adjusts.

I had mild sleep apnea and after starting C-PAP, there was a marked difference in my energy level (I was sleeping better overall, and my energy level was much higher). I was falling asleep at Red lights while driving and walking around in a fog all day before I was diagnosed. I was taken off C-Pap after I lost 50lbs. They re-tested me and the sleep apnea had resolved.
