Birth Control

I tried Nuvaring for awhile, but it didn't successfully stop my periods (which is a must now that I can't take NSAIDs for cramps). After that I switched back to pills with condoms for backup (since I couldn't count on absorbing enough of the pills for them to be successful birth control anymore), but again, even skipping the placebo week, my body was bound and determined to make me miserable. I just had a Mirena IUD inserted last Friday. I'm still in pain, so I don't know if I'd recommend it yet. It's definitely more tolerable than it was the first 2 days, and it's comforting knowing it'll work with no thought on my part for 5 years, but the thought of having to get another one in 5 years almost makes me want to cry!
I had the Mirena IUD for over five years with no initial pain and little spotting. The biggest reason for me posting, however, is this missed insight for those considering it: I didn't see the IUD until the day it was removed; stunned how tiny it was and thinking how I wasted years of fretting over no big deal.
I use Nuvaring.
Previously growing up when there wasnt many options (aka oral or the implant), I really like it in some ways but other times I dont. It has required research and adjustment
For example, when constipated I almost crapped it out (I was pushign really hard). And then one has this thing that has potentially been exposed to fecal bacteria, so you dont want to just shove it back up there...can you wa**** off with soap? I am in the work bathroom and my computer is across the building...do I shove it in my pocket? What do I do?
But it is really great if you are forgetful. But you cant be too forgetful because one needs to track when you put it in, take it out...leave it out for a week...put in a new one.
If it werent for electronic calendars...I would be lost.

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
I have the Mirena, just passed my two year mark. Love not having to think about it, I just check the strings every so often. Hurt like a ***** going in, and for several days after. I still get my period....I'm not one of the lucky girls! I got an IUD specifically because I was having WLS. I did not opt for the copper Paraguard because I have PCOS and I've read that one can increase the formation of cysts more than Mirena.
All in all, I would definitely choose Mirena again.
